Not really an interpritation, but I just read this here: http://laist.com/2009/08/03/meet_israel_nebeker_-_lead_singer_o.php "Was "Go On Say It" based on an actual incident? Well, it's really a bit of both. The inspiration came from me being really furstrated with a relationship that I was in. I felt like we were parting ways and neither of us really wanted to, you know? She said something to me that out of context was such a reasonable, sane thing, but the way she said it really upset me. I remember thinking, "My whole life after this will be different." Just because of the way she said that one thing. The story in the song is fiction, but the feeling within it is based on that moment." |

I'm watching their dvd "drive well, sleep carefully" and he talks about where the story came from. A funeral for a friend's father, a rotton human being, yet no one would speak ill of the dead. I came here searching for the lyrics. Hmm... should I not be laying out like that? Too factual? |

the bus mall is a pair of one way streets that run through the middle of downtown portland. it's mostly restricted to city bus traffic so the buses can move through quickly. it was supposed to be a big boon to business, but for whatever reason... it isn't. it's kind of a ghost town in the middle of an otherwise bustling downtown. but it's a great way to get around free within the downtown. because of this, a lot of homeless, drug dealers, whores 'n' pimps, hang out on the bus mall, and use the free section. that's where the characters in the song are hanging out, (that and the waterfront area of old town that has the collonades). the bus mall starts in old town, which contains china town: "And old chinese merchants At the old town." such a gorgeous, sad song. so strange to hear a whole album of far-flung historical stuff, and then hear this tragic romance set in the seedy part of town, not five miles from where i sit :) |
