There isn't any deep meaning to this song, it's just a song that Petrucci wrote for fun. It's very straightforward. If you want more info on the song, YouTube "Chaos in Progress". They videotaped the whole studio recording process, it's awesome.
I laugh whenever I hear this song, hearing Portnoy yelling is just so funny, and when he does it on the Chaos in Progress videos, he looks hilarious when he does it. I won't ruin it for you, so go watch them yourself! |

This song has a deep connection with the song Breach Birth and with the general tone of the whole CD. I won't go into the meaning now for sake of time, but does anyone else see the connnections? |

Does anyone else see the connection between this song, Emotional Drought, and the title of the CD? If you have watched the DVD, you'll understand what I mean. This whole CD is connected through phrasings and ideas, and it all links back to the Thesis: This kind of thinking could do us in. Anyone else see the connection?
Oh, and 7bo7benn7, I know EXACTLY what you mean. It's almost orgasmic in ways when certain notes and chords are struck. I haven't had the pleasure of getting the first two CD's, but I plan to-- when I have the money, that is. |

In reference to those who suggested a religious inferrance in the lyrics:
I would agree with you in that it is possible that the lyrics reflect something religious, however, this is not usually the case.
As to who 'he' represents, the lyrical picture portray Lucifer (Satan) much more closely than it depicts Jesus.
As to what the song truly represents:
The fans (including myself, of course) are usually WAY off when trying to decipher the lyrics simply because as humans, we interpret according to our experiences and current knowledge. We can't really know what the song means unless the band members of AFI tell us what it means. And in fact, sometimes songs don't mean anything at all to the composers and are simply means of making money. *shrug* Ehh, It's all relative. |
