dying_inside - I thought the lyrics really *were* "rock and roll honkey"!! hah This song is crazy, and fun, and really doesn't mean much... just a nice little ditty with some double kick drum hits and heavy guitars. If Elvis were into thrash, this would be the song he'd write. |

This is a song based on 'American Psycho,' by Bret Easton Ellis, a book made into a movie starring Christian Bale. The giveaway is the quote: "this confession means nothing." The book is about alienation and illusion. It was based in the late 1980s, and the main character was a trust fund kid whose nightly bloodlust had begun to spill into the day. As its central theme was illusion, the book and movie don't make it clear whether the bloodlust is real or imagined. |

My take on the song is a little bit different than everyone... I think it's about the author dealing with his own fame. "Why won't they leave me alone, when I don't even want me." Sounds like someone who can't really understand why people like him so much when he doesn't even like himself -- something I can certainly identify with. "Why do they observe me, there's nothing here to cure," again, is talking about fame and being observed by fans and critics -- and people who read into the lyrics too much, perhaps? ;) "They have to kill the meal before they can consume my inner peace, without the understanding, trapped in the words, the hands are moving me." Sounds to me like he's talking about the record industry, where they feast on his success without really taking the time to understand him or his words. He feels like a puppet on a string, another theme that comes up in other songs. |

| I always assumed this song was about a bitter divorce, but now I'm reading the lyrics a bit closer and it might be specifically about the bitter divorce of a mother and father, where the mother left the family behind in the pursuit of money. | |
