| This song is about creating isolation for yourself. Surrounding yourself with dead space really, wind blowing, mind turned off. Isaac has a clear inability to cope with his faults, to accept that he is wrong even when he knows he is. This is definitely alluded to with the comment about being a sad comedian: avoiding sad, torturing thoughts by projecting it as humor. | |

missing lyrics - enveloped in a sad distraction I'm known to bite in tight situations I think this is Thom's own way of describing what goes on in his head when he's involved with women or relationships. There's a notable tension in the heart monitor-like beep throughout the song, as well as the percussive aspects of Thom's breathing/hyperventilating. He feels dread for loving whoever the woman is, beneath her, as he is 'blinded by her light.' I don't think it's stalkerish, as he describes himself as a lapdog, something that would leave the woman in control, not the speaker. |

| I think this song is more about the general connection to our sexual urges. The line "the sound that the mother makes when the baby breaks" suggests that the pained sounds of love, or orgasm are our first experiences upon entering the world. We're tied to the urge to experience this same sort of pain. There's a fine line between pleasure and pain, and this song seems to be getting at the painful aspects of sex and love. | |
