agree with you totally danse, thats gotta be on e of my favourite song lines of all time.
John says that this albumn is about a bunch of speed freaks from 'camona?' (i think thats it), and that belgium represents a place where they are all trying to get to, kind of like a heaven, or or freedom if you see drugs as a means of escapism. Its interesting because i would see drugs as something to escape from not something to escape with. I think this song applys to everyone, not just drug users, we are all monsters on some way, and we all try to cover it up (the reference to make up) and often our efforts to escape from the part of us that is a monster only leads to us being more of a monster or a different sort of monster. the title i think shows the source of inspiration for our escape efforts, evidence that there are people who are not monsters in the same way we are, but what we dont see is that they too are monsters in their own way, they have just learnt to conceal it. |

This is definately about the alpha couple atars of the talahassee albumn and a host of other songs, it seems to indicate the first visible cracks in their relationship. |

I think its about tying to make something out of flawed material, houses are often seen as symbols of relationships, especially in darnielle's work (see the house that sripped blood). So the fact that this couple are building their house out of quite obviously flawed material, shows that their relationship was doomed from the start, however, in line with true human nature, they are willing to try anyway. Ignorance is bliss |
