To me this song talks about a person who has been through so many bad relationships. Yet as bad as they all were, she has learned from them and has helped shape the person she is today. She has had her fair share of bad experiences, but finally after many years, she finally found her soul-mate if you will. Someone that she knows is absolutely perfect for her and she's willing to do anything for this person.
I agree with everyone else, the passion and emotion through Brandi's voice makes this song unforgettable. That sound of anguish from her voice is incomparable to singers nowadays. |

To me, this song is about a guy that realizes that his girlfriend has moved on. He's in shock, hence the funeral, it feels like his whole life is falling apart. He is relishing on the past, all the great times that they've had together. They promised each other in the end that proved to be nothing but empty lies. He meant every word, while she didn't take it seriously enough and now he is left with nothing nor anybody.
It's beautifully written. In my case, I can relate it to a long-distance relationship. He's away, and she just can't bear to wait around for him any longer. The distance proved harder than she had bargained for... |

This seems like a divorce t ome. "One life: me and you" I interpreted that as the marriage binding them together. But all along the girl has always loved the guy more "you won't say love but I might", and finally it's ending. "..you muttered 'we're through"

To me, this song is about these 2 best friends. The guy has to leave for some reason or another and he wishes that he can be with this girl. "don't you worry about the distance, I'm right there if you get lonely, give this song another listen" She has impacted him in some way and he's fallen in . But right now, the timing isn't right. "Two more years and you'll be done with school and I'll be making history like I do" He promises that in the future they can be together once he comes back. Their relationship is complicated and no one understands it..."Our friends would all make fun of us, and we'll just laugh along because we know that none of them have felt this way" Overall a sweet serenading song!!! |

First off, I never thought of it as an institution. But it obviously fits well.
The only parts that really stuck out to me when I first heard this was:
"Please let that be you knocking on my door so loud just like you do."
"Please let that be you ringing my phone right now like I wish you would do."
"Please let that be you singing my song so nice souding like you do"
And to me, it seemed like typical start of a relationship. Where you're always sitting around at home secretly hoping that the person will call or show up to see you. |

I think this song is obviously about a guy trying to get over a girl. But even after she's evidently moved on, he still hasn't. He really wants to move on with the rest of his life, but he can't yet. "And I will consider you gone" seems like he's in denial. He thinks that he's able to let go of her, when he hasn't yet. But he's definately trying to move on without her... |

To me, it means two people being with each other and despite others telling them that they aren't good for each other "Why should it matter to us if they don't approve?" they're not going to listen. The first time I listened to this song, it held no meaning to me. I didn't get it, but now I can definately relate to it word by word. My friend is leaving for the Air Force soon, and we performed this song and it's become "our song". This is one of the few songs that brings tears to my eyes. I think the basic meaning of this song is that life is simply too short, and it can be over in a second and all of the things that you wished you had said or done, there is no more time for. This song can be played over and over without it getting old. The lyrics are a little genaric, but that makes it totally relateable to everybody. To me, this song is about 2 people and despite being told over and over that they shouldn't be together "forget what we're told", yet they still have feelings for each other but they just won't admit to it and it just might be too late. |
