This was the first song that got me hooked on bright eyes. Ive never been depressed to the point of contemplating suicide, but ive definitely felt "like I don't belong, like the ground's not mine to walk upon". The lines that really get me, that for a while made me cry every time i heard them, are My salvation, it came Quite suddenly When Justin spoke Very plainly He said, "Of course it's your decision But just so you know If you decide to leave Soon I will follow" this song is perfect |

| I agree with you peep, that this is about being around people and at the time feeling happy or sensually satisfied, but later, when you think about it, the night and the relationships (touch) with the people you've been with doesn't really exist, its all a fake and desperate and lonely attempt to feel love. And at the point you realize the truth, its heartbreaking and utterly depressing. | |

| Wow, i feel like this song was written just for me. I completely understand everything Conor says - being in a nightmare, days so long and black, but most importantly finding that loophole, growing from your tears, and then standing back and looking at the picture of my life. I feel sorry for all the people who have posted cynical comments on this song, declaring it insincere or depressing, its a shame you cant see the beauty in it. Yes, several of the lines are depressing, but you need to look at the whole song in context. Conor isnt saying that our lives are always gonna be incomplete and in vain, hes saying if we can step back and take a look at our lives in context, even looking at the terrible times, we will be able to see the meaningful relationships, lessons we've learned, and love we've felt above all else and know that life is beautiful. | |
