^^^I like everyone's input on the song but I'm just goin to share mine^^^ **This song after listening to it a few… hundred times just makes me think of the memories of childhood that a person has. When we are children we remember watching our parents so busy and involved in the world and everyday life of work, stress, and other things as such. ** “where are we? what the hell is going on? the dust has only just begun to fall crop circles in the carpet sinking feeling” **She is just realizing where she is in life. She starts to understand that all the years she spent as a child are gone. The spirit she had when she was a child is gone and she is now caught up in the world just like everyone else. ** ”spin me 'round again and rub my eyes this can't be happening when busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy” **(first three lines) She doesn’t want to accept it now that the memories, the childhood is gone. (next two lines) The busy streets filled with people that are so involved in work and occupied in their ‘adulthood’, they just are overwhelmed or depressed, Holding Their Heads Heavy. ** ”hide and seek trains and sewing machines all those years they were here first” **Hide and Seek, One of the many Memories we have as a child. The carefree spirit we had as a child playing little games with no worries about the world. Trains and Sewing machines, This just makes me think of her just being a child just observing things out the window as the Trains go by and then seeing her mom occupied with the peaceful work of the Sewing Machine. (God how much I would like to go back to those days, with no worries and no stress, just the innocent observation of watching other people live there lives). All those years, as a child, They (meaning memories) were there first… ** ”oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before the takeover the sweeping insensitivity of this still life” ** Ok, this is where everything kind of ties together. Oily marks on the walls where [Pictures] hung (pictures are memories true?). The pictures, dreams, and memories that were once there before….. ---the takeover--- the takeover being the process of a person getting caught up in the world and drawn away from the beautiful life of being a child. The sweeping insensitivity- the world’s insensitivity just washes those dreams and memories away of that Still life- Memory of the Childhood Innocence. ** ”hide and seek trains and sewing machines blood and tears they were here first” ”mm what d'ya say? mm that you only meant well, well, of course you did mm what d'ya say? mm this, it's all for the best, of course it is mm what d'ya say? mm that it's just what we need, you decided this mm what d'ya say? mm what did you say?” **This next part I think she’s just talking to what people say to her, its just like she knows that the childhood is gone for a reason and she realizes that but she just thinks that it doesn’t have to all go away, and is a bit frustrated and sad about the thought of letting it go, It’s for the best [but is it?], It’s just what we need, you decided this… /What did you say/? She doesn’t agree, she doesn’t want to accept that that life she once lived is gone and that’s all in the past and you should just leave it behind. ** ”ransom notes keep falling out your mouth mid-sweet talk newspaper word cut outs speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you you don't care a bit” **The words of ‘comfort’ that people try to give her ‘speak no feeling’ to her, she doesn’t believe it, she chooses not to. ** I’m only 17 but I have a taste of the forty-hours-a-week work life and how it can just be overwhelming and brainwashing. Now that I listened to this song it just makes me not want to lose those dreams that I had/have and not to get all caught up in the world. I don’t want to listen to the world telling me to accept that my childhood was just memories and to let go and accept that its over now. |
