Five for Fighting – If God Made You Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe you got it backwards there steph. I think it's about the woman/girl dying. He is there with her as she begins to pass on, and she is crying and he doubts his beliefs, but thinks that God must exist and love him if he allowed him time with someone he loved so much.

The line "Will you find me when the tide decides that I got to leave", is about how he wants her to find him when it's his turn to pass on. He wants to join her in the afterlife.

The brilliant metaphor is setup that sailing is dying (as far as im concerned). She sails off, leaving him on the beach, and when the tide decides that he has to leave, he wants her to find him.

Beautiful song, really.

Blue October – Hate Me Lyrics 19 years ago
**And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave
Kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that I had made
And like a baby boy I never was a man
Until I saw your blue eyes bright and I held your face in my hand
And then fell down yelling “make it go away!”
Just make a smile come back and shine just like is used to be
And then she whispered “how can you do this to me?”**

At first I thought he was simply talking about himself still battling the drugs in this one and his mom saying 'How can you do this to me'. The more I listen to it however, I find that this is the part in the song that his mother dies.

It's said that a boy never really becomes a man until his father dies. I think, like he does, that this also encompasses your mother. If you look at it from that perspective it's even more heart wrenching. He is growing up instantly as his mother dies and he hates himself for everything he did to her while he holds her face in his hands for the last moments of her life and he says 'make it go away' and she looks up and says 'How can you do this to me?'
