Architecture in Helsinki – The Owls Go Lyrics 18 years ago
Lyrics typed like that annoy me :

Don’t hide the treasures you’ve found
in a hole in the ground,
how ‘bout the tree back your house
where the owls go,

or in between the attic and the basement somewhere where it’s not dark, dark, dark, dark.

Attic in a basement with a knife serrated I’ll protect you.

Don’t hide the pleasures you’ve found i
n your rolling around
where all the leaves have been swept
and the flowers grow.

And don’t go finding a replacement I promise I’ll show heart heart heart heart.

Finding a replacement with a heart sedated I’ll forget you.

And you won’t make a sound
or be nervous around piles of pictures so old
that it feels like it is ending.
It’s not too late now to change your mind.
The grass gets greener when you get to the finish line,

An attic in a basement,
An attic in a basement,
An attic in a basement,
An attic in a basement,
An attic in a basement,
An attic in a basement.

And you won’t make a sound
or be nervous around
piles of pictures so old
that it feels like it is ending,
it shouldn’t feel like it is ending.

Tapes N Tapes – Just Drums Lyrics 18 years ago
this might explain why a lot of their songs don't seem to make sense...

Pitchfork: Aside from Ben Affleck, what inspires you to write songs?

JG: [laughs] That's tough, Ben Affleck's really quite an inspiration.

Pitchfork: Well, he's so versatile...

JG: It's more his pompadour. I don't know. Generally, I'll just sit around and play guitar, and I definitely try to come up with music first, and then after I have a core idea of how I want the song to sound, I'll start forming the words. And I definitely say it's more like words than lyrics. I don't fancy myself as a poet or really articulate. But writing lyrics, I'll kind of mumble stuff when we sing, in the sound of where the words should go, and form words that would fit in there, and hopefully don't sound totally idiotic. The whole idea is to have words that don't detract from the music, but hopefully will enhance it.

'planes' i'm pretty sure due to the "Now he winks at me from thirty thousand feet" part, and would also allude to him being dead/ watching her from above?

just a thought.

Arcade Fire – Alligator Mine Lyrics 18 years ago
i think this is about a very one-sided friendship/ realationship. the other person is only there when things are going well, "when colder weather comes you just disappear from me".

but the person still loves them and knows they will take them back, despite the way they treat them, even though they know it wont be long before the other person leaves, "but i cant wait to have your sweet love again before you...run run run run run run run away"

and maybe the singer realizes that the person who is supposed to take the "cold weather" away and support them is actually making things worse, "you're cold blooded, stealin my sunlight
you're cold blooded alligator mine"

this might not make sense, but i think songs are meant to be universal. this is just my take on it.
:]
