Hmm, Im trying to work out the exact meaning of this song and am finding it somewhat difficult. It seems to be about the writers experience as someone who files regularly, and who saw on the plane near him a woman he recognised, so he smiled at her. As he did this, there was hope in this lady's eyes and later in the conversation she commented "you seem so different to me". The artist seems to ponder "what's different now?" that caused this lady to suddenly notice there was something about the writer, when as far as he was concerned "everything's the same" as normal. He concludes that it is the power of a smile "that the world around me seems to understand", and its that "joy inside" which speaks of the love of God, which causes people to see soemthing different about us as Christians. "With one smile I could see The faith we share inside" |

This song is great when we need confidence to be bold in sharing our faith in Jesus with others. Kutless makes the great point that "you may not like all I have to say But you cant prove that everything is filled with empty words" He reminds us also that though we get so petrified of telling others of the truth we know ("I know my life and inside how Ive changed"), "with all the hurting people that i see" it is so important to tell others of the truth. The song also reminds me to keep things in perspective: "Theres nothing you can say that will take me away from this life" - telling others about God wont kill you.. what is the worst that could happen except people laughing at you? |

Wow, I think this is my favourite song on this CD so far (and thats saying something considering this is one of my favourite CD's ever!! Kutless rule!) In terms of what this song means to me, it seems to be referring to self-harm as a result of not matching up with the picture perfect images of the magazines. The song seems to be saying that these perfect images are not real - they are airbrushed, and the writer cries out to the listener not to compare themselves with these unrealistic ideals. The chorus cries particularly to someone sitting with a knife, feeling such worthlessness and self-hate at being unable to match these ideals that he/she plans to cut themselves, whether as self-harm or as a suicide attempt. The artist appeals to the person to "put the knife away, thats not what anybody needs, there';s a better way". Instead of comparing ourselves to magazine images, the 2nd verse tells us to be our true selves. |
