Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay screw it I don't have time to read all your posts so if I cover something that's already been said I apologize. I think that's pretty interesting that the song is partly about his mother, but I don't think that's the most important message here. I think he references that to say, "okay here's what I learned from her, and now...this is what I make of it in relation to the world"

To me, this song takes the christian belief that they are to be saved from hell on earth one day while the rest of us remain here to suffer. And the song cleverly shows this view for what is really is... preposterous. When maynard says "you're the only one who can hold your head up high, wave your fists at the gate sayin, 'I have come home now!'" he doesn't mean it literally he's just showing that that's what these people actually believe but the truth is non-religious people can be just as-if not MORE enlightened than relligious. (Religion means you have a set system of beliefs with strict rules and guidelines) so don't mistake sprirituality with religion there is a difference. And for all those people who call themselves a religious name like christian or catholic, yet they don't actually follow the guidelines accordingly...Guess what? You're not christian or catholic so stop saying you are. I believe in reincarnation but I don't go around saying I'm a buddhist. Cause many of the details surrounding my beliefs are very different than buddhism.

Anyway sorry for goin off on a tangent there, back to the song..."burden of proof tossed upon non-believers" I think this refers to how religioun can't prove anything it preeches and nor can non-religious people dis-prove it. Therefor the actual state of world should be left simply to what is more logical, and we should accept and admit the things we don't know and move on. Suggesting theories is all well and fine as long as we acknowledge that they are just that. Theories. And that anything is still possible.

Well goodnight

Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics 19 years ago
Alrighty then...Let me see if I can explain this to you all...As some of you have already noticed the lyrics here are grossly innacurate, and as close as the ones are that "aBove" posted I can easily distinguish some obvious discrepencies, but its close enough. You're all partly right in what this song is about but you need to try and combine all your theories. This song is talking about people with messianic complexes. It's from the perspective of a naive relligious nut that for some reason has had their very FIRST hallucenagetic drug experience and/or has had an ET encounter, I'm not exactly sure. And their own interpretation of what they saw is skewed by what they wanted to see and hear and they want to be a hero and share this with the world. Most of the lyrics DO actually make logical sense. (Not these ones, they're not accurate) But they offer a lot of good imagery into what this person is like. They make the point that this person is clearly a bafoon who never even graduated high school. Also this story rings true for all the people written about in the bible who claim to have been visited by angels and they go on to recite these seemingly endless speeches of what the angel told them, meanwhile its F-ing impossible to accurately remember that much, or resist the urge to embelish. Especially since I believe that angel sitings are actually encounters with extra-terrestrials. Who happen to look like us, since they began life on earth and watch over us like some kind of experiment. He also makes reference to L-Ron Hubbard. Who as you all know is the moron who started scientology. This might lead me to think this entire song could be about him if he actually claims to have had some kind of 'encounter' that lead him to want to start his retarded relligion, but I don't know the details behind that. So there's my shpeal on the whole bit.

I'd also like to say in regards to those people who don't like the new Tool stuff...Ahem....F@#$! you. You don't like it because you're not evolving at the same rate that the music is. These guys aren't required to make songs a certain way in order to maintain the same fan-base. They are expressing themselves. And everything they create is pure art and they've put more thought into it than you could even imagine. These guys are geniuses and that's why I like them. I also have a theory as to the name of this song and the reason why people seem to be having such a hard time dechyphering it. It's because there are parts that have three different sets of lyrics that have similar sound qualities but they're all overlapped. Not sure though, just a possibility. So that covers what 'toolmusik' said about the rosetta stone with the three different scripts used for dechypering hyroglyphics.

Many of the songs of this album are religiously themed. And they respectfully make very GOOD points about religion and its discrepencies and failings. And they do it with style and class.

I tried singing this song. I can get it pretty damn close, heh heh. And with that, goodnight.
