Counting Crows – Round Here Lyrics 17 years ago
If you listen to the intonation in the song it gives me a different feeling...

I think the first bit about stepping out into the fog is about being confused and feeling that nobody notices the special things about you.
The angels bit is about how you can only see it all, see all the nuances of your life if you look at it from a different perspective.
Then Maria says she’s dying – and he doesn’t know why. This is my personal experience but sometimes when you’re stuck in a time or a place you don’t want to be something inside you just seems to shrivel away from you…I feel its that. Its her expressing this complete loss of self and the fact that sometimes you can be trapped within yourself and feel like you’re dying.
The first chorus is sad, like the thing that’s radiating is bad, not good for you. Round here we have to conform, to close ourselves off from our true personality.
Then there’s the bit about meeting Maria…I feel this is about turning things around, about someone changing your view. She’s different, and strangely he doesn’t mind her upsetting his perfect life.
I think this also reflects how sometimes what looks like the “perfect” life is also a cover for deeper feelings of unsettlement.
The rest of the song carries on until he realises that “round here” isn’t really that bad.
Alternatively (and this is the personal feeling for me) it’s about losing someone through illness (mental or physical) to me its about how you go through not being able to hold onto them and then afterwards, not being able to hold on to what they stood for. How they were so different and now they’re gone. Its about how a place you’ve spent time with that person feels flat and dead without them. How everything feels uniform and dull without their glowing light in your life and how you feel that what used to be so right in your life is now so wrong without them. Plus, when someone is terminally ill they do have trouble acting normal especially when they’re nervous or wasting time.

Cake – Sheep Go To Heaven Lyrics 17 years ago
Do you think this could just be a social statement without being a religious one as well? To me this is all about social views and the way people see things is sometimes warped. When you go to a funeral or a grave, when someone dies the most important thing is always the head stone. Hence the ironic statement “The gravedigger puts on the forceps, the stone mason does all the work” To me this says we’re not seeing the full picture no one pays attention to what the grave digger does, they just fill the hole back in. It’s the same with “the barber can give you a haircut and the carpenter can take you out to lunch” Basically people notice the surface things, things that look pretty. Honestly when someone dies no one says “Wow that grave was dug very well and gee that coffin has great joints and is very sturdy” Its about how we look at the surface things and go no deeper. I honestly think it’s a statement on the shallowness of life.
When Cake sings the whole “I just want to play on my pan pipes, I just want to drink me some wine” yes it’s a bit of a Pan reference and its also about the social acceptability of what we “Want” versus what we “Should”
The “sheep go to heaven goats go to hell” line is the pinnacle of my belief of what the song is about. In life if you follow the rules and the trends you’re accepted and you don’t meet much opposition to what you’re doing (i.e. if you’re a sheep and you follow those things). But if you’re an individual and a bit of a “Goat” so to speak you’re shunned or ostracised or just considered weird.

Foo Fighters – Next Year Lyrics 19 years ago
Can i just ask if anyone else has noticed the numerous flying/sky/space lyrics in the foos songs? I think Dave is a closet Pilot hehehe.

This song means so much about rising above it, ignoring it all, i dunno i feel like there's a bit of a juxtaposition in there with you being above it but not actually noticing everything thats going...

Foo Fighters – My Hero Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree about the whole "Ordinary Hero" idea...But i'd also like to mention this:
The ordinary people in my life are my hero's My mum n dad are my Hero's. So to me its about them. My mum and dad are heros, legends even in my eyes and they'd do anything for me and my siblings.
But i got given another meaning for this song. When my boyfriend's mum died they played this at her funeral.."There goes my hero" "Kudos my hero, leaving all the best"

Foo Fighters – Walking After You Lyrics 19 years ago
I feel like this is more about admitting that someone means alot to you...and i feel the lines that say
"if you walk out on me i'm walking after you"
are actually saying "If you give up on me I'll give up on myself"

Saying "i'm on your back" is a bit like saying, "I'm on your back about being with me but that's only cuz i need you."

"If you'd accept surrender, I'll give up some more
Weren't you adored "
As in, i'd give more of myself if you'd let me. Didn't you like the way I adored you?
I dunno its just my personal interpretation. I'd give up on myself completely if my boyfriend walked out on me, i'd just basically pack my mental bags and leave. I cannot be without him.

Acceptance – Take Cover Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah the whole "I don't wanna be the one who.." Is all about how he knows its going on and he's hoping she'll stop it or pipe down before he has to literally catch her in the act.

Robbie Williams – Advertising Space Lyrics 19 years ago
could it be "profits go to waste" or "Prophets" the word "prophets" fits with "No one learned from you mistakes" as in Elvis was a prophet in the fact that he showed being famous and good looking doesn't make you happy but still people chase that goal like Brando...

Fall Out Boy – Dance, Dance Lyrics 19 years ago
I honestly think this is about him being disillusioned with a girl.
"Why don't you show me the little bit of spine you were saving for his matteress" Is kind of like saying "Show me how gutsy you are...stop fucking around be mine"
And "you always fold out just before you're found out" is like saying you take all these risks and back out at the last second. He's saying Be the person I know you are...not the person you're acting like.

"We're falling apart to half time" is kinda like everything's ending too soon its not how its supposed to be.

Jack Johnson – Broken Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about how in a relationship (Use of the word "we") could be about how in any relationship the twists and turns can't always be seen and it could also mean about getting back together with someone you split up from, believing your paths were different but suddenly finding out they're the same in the end.

Jack Johnson – Traffic In The Sky Lyrics 19 years ago
Do you think that apart from the standard 9/11 thing this could just be a generalisation on the way mankind is going? The traffic in the sky not getting much better could just be a generalisation on all the things that are "up in the air" so to speak at the moment.
And one other thing "How could we have known...its really not so hard to tell...if you keep adding stones soon the water will be lost in the well" Picture it...little bit of water in the well, drop in a truck load of stones and although the well is still there and so is the water you lose the water (Can't see it) Its a bit like life isn't it...the important things get overthrown by all the little things that build up and build up.

James Blunt – Wisemen Lyrics 19 years ago
Some of you say the use of wisemen might by ironic use for bullies...but i wanna know something...Wouldn't you say "Wiseguy" "Smart ass" "Tough kid" before you'd say "Wise men" I'd say if its ironic its not aimed at kid bullies its aimed at Adults that think they're smart...

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow...tell u the truth i heard freddie say in an interview once that it meant nothing and although its fantastically written, hugely tragic in a way and an absolutely excellent song i believe it honestly means nothing...its an epic song, and i love it but it doesn't mean much at all...except maybe a slight story in there.

Jack Johnson – Flake Lyrics 19 years ago
This song just really hit home...i've always loved it but now i see my current boyfriends situation. Its about a situation that may be difficult for him but "Like a tree down by the water baby i shall not move" he's still gonna stick it out and be there in the end.

Don McLean – Vincent (Starry Starry Night) Lyrics 19 years ago
You don't think this song could be a little ambiguous? A touching tribute to Vincent Van Gogh and also a tribute to someone or something else?

For some reason this song brings to mind a friend of mine who suffered from Schizophrenia...it really outlines to struggles he suffered to appease what was going on in his head right up until the moment he killed himself.
Could Don Mclean have been paying tribute to someone that went through something similar?

Rise Against – Swing Life Away Lyrics 19 years ago
You don't think the "Winters so cold summer's over too soon" comment could be metaphorical.
Winter or cold/bad/unhappy/lonely times compared to brief moments of emotional "Summer" happiness etc?

Jason Mraz – Life Is Wonderful Lyrics 19 years ago
"Life is wonderful"
doesn't the title say it all?
We can't have good without bad, happy without sad that sorta thing. That Life is wonderful because of the diversity of things in it and that you wouldn't appreciate the good if you didn't have the bad every now and again.

Incubus – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 19 years ago
tell you the truth i feel like this song is about not being on the same level as someone you care about. You know you can see the sand and the way you perceive the ocean and it seems like the other person just isn't feeling what you are...
Once again that's a personal interpretation.

Foo Fighters – DOA Lyrics 19 years ago
its funny but i always thought this was a look at life...We're born with the knowledge that we're gonna die (DOA - Dead on Arrival) and it only takes a second to say goodbye.
Also some minor references to the fact that some people are afraid of death or it gets them down.
I could be wrong.
