i can completely relate to this. The exact same thing has just happened to me, i loved my girlfriend and she just turned her back on me for no reason, and although i still loved her, i really wanted revenge. She lied to me and strung me along too, which i think is what Maynard is saying in "crawling" away, she crawled cos she was too much of a coward to tell me the truth. Brilliant song, tool and the best. |

i dunno if the song was written about the same things, but it really does fit with what i'm going through now, after my girlfriend has broken up with me temporarily, and she still hasn't told me why, but i still love her, and i've come too far, and i love her too much to give her up, and whatever happens now, i'll still be chasing her, trying to take back what i had with her. The first verse means a lot to me, because i met her when she was doing a lot of photography, and used to take pictures of me and our friends. |

I don't know exactly what it means, cos i don't speak finnish or whatever language it's in, but from the prologue, i think it's just about an army marching to war in the past, because it was just another part of life to them. it sounds really inspiring, especially the last bit. |

This song helped me through a difficult period, my girlfriend broke up with me, after i thought it was gonna last forever. I hated her for it, because she was really unfair about it, but i still loved her, and because of that, she was like my kryptonite. I'd always been strong in the past, but i was helpless with her, because all i wanted was to have her back. I feel the song is simply about having a personnal strength, but eventually, you're going to find one person that you're going to be weak for, and that's just part of being human. You'll be someone's superman, it just depends on whether they're going to still see you in that way and come to help you when you need them. |

This song means a lot to me, cos i've just split with my girlfriend after 2 months, when i felt like it was gonna last for years. She broke up with me for nothing, and although i hate her for it, i still love her, and so i really connect with this song, because i can't help but beat myself up about it, even though i treated her as best i could. I keep bleeding myself for what she's done, and in that way, at least i'll always be better than her, which makes me feel better, so thanks metallica. fuck yeah! |

i know it might seem obvious, but my best guess is it's about life, and how you shouldn't get caught up in the finer points of religion and just live your life, it'll work out in the end. There's no way you'll ever know what's beyond this existence, until you get there, so just let it go and enjoy your life.
the name of the song and the video also gave me the impression that it was about letting things go, the old man following the boy and finding his posessions in the field, and how it ends with him just wearing white, and smiling in a relieved way, he let go of his demons. |

i doubt it was written about him (i think it happened after the album was released), but the lyrics really remind me of oli sykes from bring me the horizon. i live in nottingham, and when BMTH played rock city, they invited a bunch of fans onto the bus after the show. he kept trying to fuck this female fan who just wanted to meet the band, and when she didn't put out, he pissed on her and bottled her in the face with an empty jagermeister bottle. i'm pretty sure every metal fan in nottingham wants to do exactly what this song says to that fucker now, he's not a rock star, he's a little pussy who can't handle that some girl would sooner just hang out than fuck. |

i don't think it's as simple as anarchy, i think it's about the corruption of power, that he kills the king, only to become the king himself. he sees corruption in a powerful figure (a politician, maybe the president), overthrows them, then becomes just like them. i think the message is not to let power be given to one man alone. |

i think it's about how society and government oppress minorities by lying about them and forming propaganda against them in various forms, hence the name slanderous. It raises the main point that we're all just human, and that people who used to be proud to be human, are now hating their "brothers" because of the unnecessary violence and hate they've received. |

every song on blood mountain is as good as the last, which is rare in music these days. i think this song is about how the main character learns to control his werewolf side, that it isn't a curse, but a weapon he can use, a hand of stone he can use to defeat enemies, he realises that the gods haven't cursed him, but gifted him. lines like "brain divided", "arm of strength, nature's fire" and "the truth, the mask" show this, as well as the awesome bit before the solo. Also the last line i mentioned suggests the guestioning of which is his true self, the human or the wolf. Sorry, this is my A level English Literature showing through. |

The literal meaning that i get out of this song is that it's about a man who's married to a gorgeous woman, but five priests rape and kill her, believing that they were slaying their temptation when they were just giving in to it and their jealousy of the man. After he finds the body, her ghost (in the fog) leads him back to the church, where he sets fire to it, burning the priests alive to be judged by god. It could be completely different, i don't really know the band well enough to say, that's just how i saw it. |

I don't think it has any incredibly serious meaning behind it, just that modern nursery rhymes have a darker meaning. I think it was just meant to show those nursery rhymes in a slightly darker tone, so you could see their darker meanings, and that through them, you learn to understand the world, because you're learning about these tragedies through happy songs. also, the mary had a little lamb/ baa baa black sheep bit, refers to slavery, as baa baa black sheep was actually about black people selling the wool and cotton they had picked. |

yeah i thinks that's right, i think he transforms into the werewolf to fight off the birchmen, just as they're about to kill him, hence the line "run with death". Then as soon as he turns back, he is attacked by the creatures in hunters of the sky. I also agree, Homme should have had a much bigger part, gotta love that riff after the second chorus though. |

i got the idea that it had something to do with human sacrifice, like in the line "carve out your soul, lay it on the altar and leave us here all alone". and the fact that the word capillarian is obviously a take on the word capillary, which ties to the idea of a heart or blood, as if someone's heart has been cut out as a sacrifice. It obviously doesn't fit very well with the album theme, but it was just another idea that might be interesting. |

No the birchmen are a race of tree people, hence "birch" (a type of tree) and "men" (they are half human), they are also mentioned in the bit with weird vocals in circle of cysquatch, and Brent even mentions them in the making of documentary. Though i remember reading an article that Brann wrote that said that the intro to crystal skull was inspired by Peter's Jackson's version of king kong, and this song always reminds me of the bit in the canyon with the giant bugs. It has that same atmosphere that the characters are on the verge of dying in a terrible place where no human has survived. |

No, i think it's about a fucking big shark. The name would suggest so, as would the lines "Sensing the blood of prey" and "rolling over, falling into jaws". I think it's about the shark, but also how it could be linked with mythology. That it feeds on mermaids, or how it naturally linked to a mermaid, or a mermaid can transform into one. Actually, that would make sense, that the mermaid pures sailors towards her, then turns into a bastard big shark, which would explain the line "hideous creation, human and animal". |

I think this song is about a sinking ship, where the hull has been breached and it's sinking to the bottom of the sea where it'll stay forever, and there is only one survivor who's left floating in the ocean amoungst the wreckage. "Taken down with hearts alive" refers to all the men who drown as it sunk, and the first verse talks about the ship sinking to the bottom of the sea. The chorus is about the lone survivior who's left alone in the emptyness of the ocean, "time and space, all alone, it can be a lonely place". The second verse is about the lone survivor swimming back to the surface. It's an amazing song, and pretty scary when you think about it, very atmospheric. |

He does say in the liner notes of the remastered album that it's about a serial killer, but not in a kind of berserk rage kind of way, like detailing the blood splatter and that. it's more about a serial killer who's smart and genuinly believes in what he's doing, and possible finds it sexual, you get the idea that he almost thinks of it as making love to someone, and in that way he's a much more dangerous killer.
It always reminds me of the Hannibal Lector movies, and even Saw, infact it would have been so much better than that whiny crap that Fear Factory did. Just a thought. |

I think it's about how as kids we grow up with wars around us, and we play games of wars with our toys, and later in life many teenagers don't seem to realise how serious it is. i've known many friends who have been dead pumped up to join the army when they left school to go and protect the country, as if they still think it's a game. They're where the wild things are, cos they are in the battlefield that they obviously aren't ready for.
I love the way the song almost sounds like a lullaby, and it's very dream like in the sounds of the riffs, very atmospheric. Makes you think of children dreaming of their toys marching to war. I think Reload was a very underrated album, and it had some very good songs on it, some of my favourite in fact, like this one, memory remains, carpe diem baby and fixxxer. |

At least put a bit more effort into your personnal meanings "jet pilot is a metaphor for life" "the highway is a metaphor for life", "Deer Dance is a fucking metaphor for life". I think that the horse is the jet plane itself, as if it is the jet pilot's horse, his transport. "wired were the eyes of a horse" refers to how it has all the naigation and radar tracking equipment, and the jet pilot is smiling because of how he feels completely safe with all the technology, yet neither he nor the plane saw a missile coming towards him, and his remorse is that he put too much trust in the technology and wasn't watching the skies. Then i think it talks about how he feels this goes for life in the second verse, that we have to look after ourselves, and be watching the skies. this is just my interpretation though. |

This song was released to coincide with the release of the russian film Night Watch, as it was used on the credits. It's an amazing film, and the song suits it brilliantly, this is why it isn't on any of the albums, because it was only on the Night Watch soundtrack, but i strongly advise anyone to check out the film if you like this song. |
