| Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Benny the Bouncer Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| I thought the "cold meat pie" might be cockney rhyming slang for something but an Internet search shows up nothing but speculation... But I did come across that a "Ted" might be a "Teddy Boy" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Boy | |
| Deftones – Do They Know It's Christmas? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Did the song help any of the starving kids in Africa? (the Deftone cover that is) Love the lyric, "Tonight thank God it's them instead of you"... Don't like the lyric "There won't be snow in Africa this Christmas"... snow is probably the last thing they want |

| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It has to do with drugs, but it's about hypocrisy... Judging by all the cliches about hypocrisy in it... The Pot calling the kettle black, throwing stones in glass houses, etc. "When you pissed all over my black kettle, you musta been high" This is a kind of funny/ironic accusation, like the homosexual calling the homophobe "gay" to express disgust, etc. In other words, some of the doctrine of the anti-drug people is so ridiculous, they must have been high to come up with it. "fucktoids" ROTFLMAO!!! |

| Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Jerusalem Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| That;s what I thought too, but it seems this is held as a patriotic song in England, judging from the odd reference I've heard to it. Combined with the tune I think it's very uplifting... definitely a lot better than their dreary "God Save the Queen" | |
| Disney – A Whole New World (Aladdin) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Sex? Drugs? Don't be ridiculous! This is a satire of the ignorance of the bourgeois classes, a spoilt upper class girl is being shown the lives of the proletariat. "Princess" is obviously a derogatory (sp?) word used to refer to the girl. "When did you last let your heart decide?" is a reference to the deliberate ignorance, Out-of-sight-out-of-mind mentality... They would never stop and consider the plight of the poorer folk. "No one to tell you 'No' or where to go or say you're only dreaming", the "princess" can have whatever she wants. The "endless diamond sky" is the girl finally beginning to realise that all her wealth comes in fact from the workers, "Don't you dare close your eyes" - The working class boy urging her to accept the truth. "Every moment red-letter" - Red being the colour of socialism, of course. |

| Foo Fighters – Alone + Easy Target Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is written from the point of view of God, who is lamenting the dwindling faith in him, as more people to the "they knew all along they're not dumb they were so wrong" While people pretended to believe in God, deep in their psyche they knew He could never exist. "she's not always fun" The believer and the preacher follow strict religious rules. "hate it now call when I'm done" The dismissive tone of this line implies that the afforementioned rules are resented by the public, followed in public but in private they are dismissed as ridiculous. "pieces fell in place puzzles suck laughin my face" As time went on, and new scientific facts were discovered, there became less and less reason to believe in God turn and swing the pace I'll give this keep the good waist "head is on" People are no longer being beheaded for things like blasphemy or heresy "I want out I'm alone" God has had enough of this, and is beginning to feel the loneliness of his dwindling support "and I'm an easy target" Religion is blamed for the problems of society "metronome" The cold hard facts of science "crazy t.v. dreams might be true not what it seems." The faerie tale fiction of religion are being dismissed and reality being uncovered "food and cavities, chewing words tear at the seams" The word of God is becoming so full of holes that it is beginning to crack (tear at the seems). "he don't feel so good, don't feel bad not that he should" The believer finds it hard to come to terms with the fact its an illusion, but he should get over it and move on. "i don't feel so good, don't feel bad not that i should" God's own loneliness is driving Him deep into depression, but since He doesn't exist, He should have no hard feelings "did you ever listen?" Did you ever really believe in God? "get out." The positioning at the end of the song gives this a double meaning. It reflects both the loss of temper from the narrator (God) and also the advice to all who believe to leave their pre-conceptions of religion behind them. |

| The Flaming Lips – All We Have Is Now Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Love the melancholy tone of the song and esp the line, "You and me were never meant to be part of the future"... Regarding its meaning, isn't "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" a concept album? So you have to think about how the song fits in with the overall story of the album | |
| Nizlopi – JCB Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The dad is dead, surely... it's sung in that kind of tone... Didn't think of the bullies thing either till I read it here, but I suppose it does kind of make sense | |
| Radiohead – My Iron Lung Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I actually like it less now that I know what it's about... I never liked Creep anyway, it's one of the more boring plain songs, and when you had brilliance like "You" and "Vegetable" and "Blow Out"... Anyway, I heard somewhere Thom Yorke had an iron lung when he was young, and I suppose I assumed the song was about childhood trauma of constant medical attention... "The headshrinkers, they want everything" sung being over-powered by that chaotic riff would be fantastic if it was referring to a child's descent into a chaotic life, being pissed off at a psychologist asking about every little detail of his life... but if that's not what it's about... boring... |

| Seemingly she got paid just £36 for this, and that was because it was sunday and therefore double the usual £18 fee! | |
| Pink Floyd – Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict Lyrics | 19 years ago |

'I like the fact they refer to the scotish guy as one of the "several species of small furry aninimals" hah' Er... I think he was the Pict! |

| Pink Floyd – When the Tigers Broke Free Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"I never understood this song, is he angry at england. If it was me i would not be angry at england, id be angry at those damn nazis" I think he is angry at the loss of his Dad to war, sure the Nazis did the shooting and if he sat and thought about it Hitler forced Churchill into war, but it is an emotional time, he's not rationalising and all he is thinking about is that High Command ordered his Dad to stay put instead of withdrawing, resulting in his death. All in all, it was another brick in the Wall. "where you angry at Bush when the world towers were hit?" No, but many were angry at Bush when he sent their sons to war in Iraq. |

| Pink Floyd – The Trial Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"The whole album is loosely based around Syd Barret's life" It was loosely based around Roger Waters' life... In any case, a brilliant song in the context of the album. If you haven't time to listen to the entire album at least listen to the two songs before it - Waiting for the Worms and Stop, and the one after it - Outside the Wall. The four fit together beautifully. |

| Weezer – Undone - The Sweater Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Love the sort of really chaotic disorganised end to this song followed, by the clean crisp intro to "Surf Wax America" (the following song)... Though apart from that intro I don't really like Surf Wax America... | |
| Weezer – You Gave Your Love To Me Softly Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Anyone notice a slow version of this song can be sung along to the chorus of "Don't cry" by Guns N Roses? Spooky... Apart from the bridge maybe |
|
| Tool – Eulogy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| correction to above - to any self-proclaimed martyr | |
| Tool – Eulogy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"The song is clearly about Jesus Crist. He was basically a martyr. Just read the end of the song." I don't agree that the song is necessarily about Christ - I know he has the references to crosses, etc. at the end, but that's an expression commonly used (obviously in parallel with Jesus) to any martyr |

| Pantera – Floods Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Possibly accusing the ignorance of modern people towards the disasters (natural or otherwise) occuring in parts of the world it is easy to ignore (because they are far away - "Your language unheard of")... be it poverty, famine, war, disease, natural disasters, those of us not affected by it find it too easy to ignore and would rather get on with our daily comfort than even think about it... We'd rather not think about those unfortunates, whether it's because we don't care ("Cold hearted world", "Deaf ears are sleeping"), are fed up of hearing about it and are no longer shocked ("A dead issue", "the vast sound of tuning out") or just find it too depressing or upsetting to think about, ("A guilty bliss, so inviting", "Don't wrestle with it") "Wash away us all, take us with the flood", is an indicator of the speaker's anger with us all. Every bit of guitar played in this song is beautiful... From the main riffs to the little bit of accoustic between the verse and the first solo, the solo itself and the outro. Just finished listening to it and I think I'll play it again |

| Mogwai – May Nothing But Happiness Come Through Your Door Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Is it a different song I'm thinking of, or shouldn't this be called, "May nothing but happiness come through your door" ?? | |
| Def Leppard – Rocket Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"Gene Jenie=KISS?" Jean Jeanie, surely, David Bowie? "Satellite of love" - Velvet Underground I think |
|
| Def Leppard – Let's Get Rocked Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Obviously "Rock" means "Fuck" (substitute the word "Fuck" for "Rock" in the lyrics and they make more sense - other than "Rock and Roll" of course :) ) | |
| Tool – Hooker with a Penis Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Basically it's a "Shut the fuck up" to all the people who believe that they are sell-outs "I'm the man and your the man and he's the man as well", - I'm doing what's best for myself and so should you. He is calling the fan a whinging hypocrite with a terribly misconceived idea of what selling is all about "I sold my soul to make a record" - You sell out the instant you sign the dotted line - whether it's a major label or not. "Vans 501", "Sips of Coke" - brand names showing the kid really doesn't know what he's talking about. I love this song it's the exact opposite to the song "Jenny from the Block" by Jennifer Lopez (hate to bring her into a Tool conversation but there you go). Whereas Tool stands up to the kid in a level-headed and down-to-earth manner, Lopez pathetically protests to her fans pleading with them to continue to regard her as "Cool". |
