I think this song IS about love. But the obsessive kind. The first verse is somebody falling in love and the virus infecting them. It can see you, you cant see it, it can "touch" you, you can't feel it (traits of a virus). And then its talking about opening up and making yourself vulnerable to someone "let your guard down", you're relaxed and sublime allowing whatever is to come, to come. But after that, you can't avoid love. Either it'll silently get you, or if you realize its coming and try to avoid it, you cant. The next versse is about the virus infecting the body. All those nervous feelings that go along with being in love, difficulty breathing, impatience...The last part of it is about the victim finally accepting their fate. They cant avoid the virus. Then it gets to being obsessive and the rapist/necropheliac thing comes in. The virus is pretty much in complete control. The final verse that starts with "It's almost time to play/it's time to be afraid" is the thoughts of the infected person, then the virus. "Oh God, I'm ready now/you're almost ready now" He thinks he's ready, the virus knows he's not quite there. "I'm gonna love you now/I'm gonna put you down" The guy is gonna love his own victim, and the virus is gonna finish the guy their infecting off. "I see you in the dark/I see you all the way I see you in the light/I see you plain as day" He's stalking his victim, the virus is watching the whole thing. "I wanna touch your face/I wanna touch your soul I wanna wear your face/I wanna burn your soul" The infected person and the virus both want to become as close as they can to their victims. And then want to become even closer by wearing their face, and burning their soul. Love hurts? |

| Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades Lyrics | 19 years ago |

This song is about growing up and losing your childhood innocence. In this case, through sex. "No longer cool, but a boy in a stitch, unprepared for a life filled with lies and failing relationships" He use to think that sex was for people in love. But now, he's caught in between his childhood belief and his realization that sex is for fun and is meaningless. "He is the lamb, she is the slaughter " He's innocent, she's done it A LOT. "He whispers that he loves her, but she's probably only ready for... so much more than he could ever give A life free of lies and a meaningful relationship" Even though she's a whore he know that its kind of her way of looking for a meaningful relationship. But its hollow and you can't find a meaningful relationship by having sex at the drop of a hat. And he knows thats what she's looking for, and thats what he's looking for, but he can't give that to her, because he thinks that he's expected to have the kind of sex all of his friends are having. "The tickle, the taste of... It used to be the reason I breathed but now it's choking me up. Die young and save yourself." His old views of love drove him, but now he hates it. So die young and hold onto your childhood views. This is kind of the "Lost Generation" thing. Caught in between your ideals and your percieved reality. |
