You have everything in the American dream, and then what? You have no more than you started with. You start to wonder what you really have, and this song is about that. When he talks about the water, you can take it as suicide. "Let the water hold me down." "Into the blue again, after the money's gone." Blue obviously being water, of course. He's not happy with all the things he has, so when that's gone, he has nothing of himself but death, so he snuffs himself. I love the irony, the song sounds so curiously upbeat. |

| Iron & Wine – Sunset Soon Forgotten Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this one goes a bit deeper than just old memories, more into what Sam Samson was saying. I think that the song is about the purity of childhood, and how much greater it is than the sinfulness of "growing up." In the first stanza, it seems that there was some sort of party with crazyass frat boys or something. The sunset was spent drunk and whatnot, prompting the "Be this sunset soon forgotten." The second stanza is obviously much more innocent, largely hinted by the chasing of June-bugs. In short, "Be this sunset one for keeping." Much more enjoyed in its simplicity and innocence. | |

| Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention HumbleHampster's being on page 5. I myself am not religious, but I still found it interesting. | |

I just want to add to all the same opinions on the song (except for HumbleHampster's on page 5, thanks for being different AND explaining yourself) that the "eye in the sky" is a reference to the space nebula that appeared to be an eye, especially after being recolored, and is why it is used as a reference to God. http://www.snopes.com/photos/space/eyeofgod.asp And though there does seem to be some religious aspects to the song, you still can't ignore the 3rd planet being used to symbolize a child, giving the entire song a whole different theme, so I side with that theory. I know it was never direct in the song, but I think the baby may have drowned in the ocean, otherwise why the giant analogies, you know? Sort of like the fact that the baby drowned in the ocean made him 'one' with the ocean. I'm not at all saying I'm right, just sort of suggesting it. |

| Mindless Self Indulgence – Stupid MF Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I swear, I think he says "sensible," too, and he says, "Anyone still following me?" I think I hear an "N" in there, so it can't be, "Are you all still following me?" I'm completely liable to being wrong, though. They're sense of humor is awesome, us guessing the lyrics is the entire point. He talks really fast so that you can't understand, then slows down to call you retarded. Great way to make fun of the listeners. | |
