i cried the first time i heard it. its so honest and eager. like listening to someone confess a secret.
i think everyone has, at one point, felt this way:
""""I don't wanna be your friend
I just wanna be your lover."""" |

its absolutely about a girl warning a potential lover about her emotional baggage and past relationship snafus. like a surgeon general's warning for herself. |

this song is song is so gorgeous. i feel like its about two friends making a mistake and sleeping together. They do it drunkenly but then they realize they really have feelings for eachother.

i love this song...the sitar solo is wonderful. i'm still iffy on what it all means...maybe young people trying to break away and leave home. Their parents aren't helping them, but just watching them leave and waiting for them to fail.
just a thought... |

hey, i dunno if anyone is around, but there was a version of this song on battlestar galactica tonight (season finale). i know it wasn't the dylan or hendrix version, so i was wondering if anyone else watched the show and recognized who sung that version. thanks! |

my mom used to dance around to this when she was pregnant with me (it was a huge hit the year i was born and it was on the radio all the time, she tells me). thats probably why i love george harrison so much. i listened to him before i knew he was ever in the beatles. |

doesn't it kinda sound like someone messed up and said "elocution" instead of "evolution" in the first line? |

mccartney wasn't making a stab at immigrants. the song is actually a response to the anti-immigrant movement that was taking place at the time in England (anti-immgrant and deportation laws were being passed at an alarming rate). He originally wrote a more literal song about the issue, but made the lyrics more obscure so as to not stir up trouble with the government. probably because of a few of the band members recent drug charges. |

right after john was shot and paul was interviewed and said something offhand like "it's a drag", he's obviously very upset and pissed off that the media is making such a circus out of his close friend's death. thats the reason for his curtness. after all that history together (no matter what animosity they might have had before between them), does anyone really think he could have actually been that non-chalant? |

i heard that the rattling at the end is a near empty bottle of blue nun wine (like $2.00 wine) paul left on the speaker. and that is why i love the beatles. they have rooms full of money and they still drink cheap-ass alcohol. |

i also wanted to say that the guitar on the song is gorgeous and mellow. the song is really subtle and if you turn it up, it makes you feel like all warm and enveloped. |

| Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics

i read somwhere that the whole album is about recently deceased friends of the band and its written about them and dedicated to them. if you read the song as a song about death, it takes on a whole different meaning. the song is from the point of view of a dead person seeing his parents weeping over his grave. he digs a tunnel from his grave to the grave of another dead person whos also buried in the snow. the follow verses are about him crossing over into the afterlife and forgetting about his life on earth.
well, at least thats what i think. |
