| Metallica – Frantic Lyrics | 19 years ago |

This song is a great one again. And this album is one of the greatest pieces of music ever heard. There are a whole bunch of young metal bands out there who think that they only need some more expensive equipment to get better and do the job as their great idols. With St Anger metallica shows clearly that you can make real great music without fat equipment, just pushing the music that is coming from the instruments onto these silver discs without dubbing and mixing and sampling as they showed on the black album that they also know how to do that. But St Anger is a way back to the roots. Direct music, great sound. Again Metallica define themselves new, again metallica define trash metal new, again metallica found out a new way to make music. And what does frantic tells us ? Well wouldn't we do all the same if we could go back and try again ? Life and how well we live it is more an aspect of personal truth and power than an aspect of learning to make it better. This song crashes the idea of learning from faults ! Life's not trial and error, it's one way and the clock tick tick tick tocks. So go ahead with strength and faith through the pain of live. Keep on track guys ! |

| Metallica – Don't Tread On Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ah, words of wisdom, finally in this thread too! Thank you pipe-les. Of course the snake is here and was always a symbol for the devil. And it even was on the old minutemen flag. So don't tread on me did mean and will always: Don't wake the hate, the devil of war, we are ready or it. But you should realize that : never begins it, never, but once engaged, never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage. For the minutemen there was liberty in the end. End it was the cooling end of rage, with the big cooling ocean between them and the british empire to free of at least. But what happens today, america ? once you provoke her, rattling of her tail. What is this she serpent ? Why she ? Now it is not a rattle snake here ! it is she serpent ! finally the bow from the adam and eva lead to death by the snake to the whore of babylon leading the whole world to death of armageddon. This theme completely aligns with all metallica songs ever heard. So america, god's own country, what do you think rattles of her tail. It's not the rattle that makes the serpent angry, but the angry serpent that rattles, once you provoke her. Emblem of Vigilance, oooh no no no ! Beware of the devil, she's right next door ! |

| Metallica – The Struggle Within Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
can anyone tell me what "kicking a dead horse" should mean ? It sounds idiomatic but i've never heard it. anyway, there are quite many people who have the habit to struggle within especially in europe and even more especially in germany. i experienced this while i was on a seminar for inner healing through the fatherhood of god and the deliverance of jesus christ. it was amazing to see that this struggle within cannot be healed by jesus alone, as any affliction can, but that the struggle is a bad habit that needs to be trained out too. Anyway i think there are quite many of you out there who exactly know what a "struggle within" means and some of you are still struggling at least at some odds and ends. At least now: You are not alone but you need to do really hard work ... you should just begin to stop this boredom, there's a big live waiting outside and you really have nothing to loose. |

| Metallica – Through The Never Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
no i don't agree. there are things: "all that is, ever", does not go to the never but is twisting and turning through the never, the endless, immesurable void of the universe, and more. this does not only hold for our physical state on the "on our home, third stone from the sun", which is btw a real great expression to connect both the physical and psychical mankind. this "twisting turning through the never" holds for the psychic or soulfull state of us human beings: "see past our eyes". i think we can detect a great concept here of identifying something that is even bigger than the universe since the "universe much to big to see" is equal to the "all that is, was and will be" which is matter in space and time. but this everything must go through the never. and never materialises it becomes more than the word never simply means, since "then never comes". this song again shows metallicas awareness of the end of time, and that there is something behind this universe, which alone is too big and to quick to see ("to quick to critizise" is a great formula for showing that everything even changes in space time and all we might be able to see even from the smallest part of the universe would only be a short part in time, thus even if we concentrate on a small part of space we never could see that completely, not to speak form the whole vastness). they leave it open here what this "Never" is, that holds the universe of space and time. this song clearly shows awareness of god, or however you would call him but it doesn't mean, no existence. "we hunger to be alive" and we "ask forever", reminds me of "i think therefor i am", but in a quite more humble and fitting expression, since we are not out of our own. we think, we ask so we are, but not out of ourselves, not out of our thoughts, since our thoughts are clearly located "on our home", "out of the edge of forever" (means here and now". this does not only mean that the human being is small but he is also quite big, since he is aware of god: "Pursuit of truth no matter where it lies Gazing up to the breeze of the heavens On a quest, meaning, reason" (btw this does not only mean aware of himself, this is more) though they don't call it god, to leave the expression open. quite intelligent text, short and powerfull, and each word and note in this song bends to the final "Never". |

| Metallica – Sad But True Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I must agree with those who identify the devil in this song, taking over the man. This also aligns to later songs. In devils dance you can hear "Let me make your mind, Leave yourself behind", which then results finally in "I'm you". These are the accusations of the devil, who wants to lead us into sin, since nothing else seems to make sense anymore, for the sinful one. He can't even feel anymore, though the pain is there. Hmm, really black, that album. Maybe it's best to follow the god that failed, in the end ? |

| Metallica – King Nothing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Actually this song, doens't only fit to greedy persons in history or some jews, or who ever, but it exactly fits you out there ! What are you chasing ? In the end you are only a name, of to never never land ! Don't waste your live to whishes, chasing things, building your castle, since it will crash finally. This is nearly exactly that what Jesus said about where you should build your house and where you should collect your wealth. Read the new testament and the meaning of this song will be perfectly revealed. Or you will be off to never never land at last. Are you the king of your live, King Nothing, or who is it ? Well, happy guy, you are not alone with King Jesus with you. |

| Metallica – Free Speech for the Dumb (Discharge cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| How to perform complete political criticism in one simple sentence. There's no much more to say about democracy, actually: Free speech for the dumb! Hah, let's talk about it lol. | |
| Metallica – The Frayed Ends of Sanity Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Man, what's up with you ? Why are all metallica songs about alcohol and drugs, that's so wrong and so shallow. I don't think that any metallica song is about alcohol or drugs itself, but alcohol and drugs sometimes play a role in the periphery of the real problem. I have some friends who suffered under psychotic attacs from time to time. This song is an absolute exact description of what happens to a schizophrenic, psychotic mind. Listen psychologists, this song ist better than many of your books ! |

| Metallica – Dyers Eve Lyrics | 19 years ago |

thank you very much for your comment robsturr. though my childhood wasn't that hard I always felt exactly the same when hearing this song. I think that any childhood has some stains and we live in a world where "children are seen but are not heard" and censorship is traded from the bigger to the smaller (as the whole album expresses). "Dyers Eve" is the absolutely fitting and expressive finish to this topic, touching every waking up soul out there. I cannot say anything about the exact technical qualities of lars ullrich or any other one of metallica, but i never heard a band that can push out a song with that much pressure as they do especially in dyers eve. But i never was sure about the consequences arising from this song, and now i know, thank you again, rob. Since the fealing is two fold: first there is depression, anger, fear, rage about what happened in the childhood, reviewing how it could have been. But this is only the first step up the stairs being able to review this bad history, finally understanding that this shit really happened and that you are not alone with it ! There is no question anymore, "living out this hell you always knew", we don't wan't to trade it to our children again and again, you know, so we really need to be reborn, we need salvation from this. So there is no escape from this truth, so wake up, soul, from this nightmare. |

| Metallica – The House Jack Built Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
There's absolutly now reason to reduce metallica songs to alcohol, heroine or any other drugs, like I always find in comments about this and other metallica songs. One of my first experiences with metallica was in my youth when a friend of mine, living in a small chamber with really BIG speakers, pushed the volume up, playing ride the lightning. The song that struck me in my heart was creeping death of course. Reviewing the biblical and historical context of this and other songs, we cannot read the text of "The house that jack built" without reviewing the origin of the expression, which comes from a poem from the 16'th century, which makes even more sence, when you think of metallica as of musicians who made themselves well knowing and loving J.S.Bach (1685-1723). The original poem tells us about a a house that is quite badly build, affecting all and anything living within, with it's bad nature. Yes, it might be alcohol, it might even be Jack Daniels that makes the destroys this house which is "my body my temple". It might also be any "other demon that I meet". For me this song takes us much farther, describing the agony of the whole life that makes us "open the doors" for the demons like heroin and jack daniels. It just makes no difference what makes you "twist away, away, away". This like much other songs written by james hetfield is again a cry for salvation from this life, for some "place to hide" from it. Note also that the body the temple "this temple it tilts", will tilt anyway, no matter what kind of demon makes the temple tilt, no matter how high you are, how far you went, you will fall and you will have to crawl back. But back to where? What is the meaning, the aim of this life, in this badly build, detructed house ? I don't know if hetfield had an answer to this question, but at least he asks the question. And he asks you ! |
