Economimus is right, part of the beat and the lyrics are taken off or inspired by De La Souls song. I think this songs is very educative for children as they learn so much from a catchy song. You go teach them about polution, Jack! |

The album Curious George was made for the movie Curious George which is a little kiddie movie. You couldn't have expected highly original and political. It sends out a vibe that children can understand, learn off and enjoy. |

He can get away with it because he is right about stuff like that. And I'm sure he knows not every woman or man is like cattle or superficial asses. ^0^ 'Bright lights flashing To cover up your lack of Soul many people so many problems So many reasons to buy another round Drink it down Just another night on the town' I like this part because he means that by drinking, partying and who knows what we try to put our problems away and by living those shallow lifes we seem soulless. |

"I could close my heart and not care, but gravity has got a hold on us all." What do you think he means by gravity? I was thinking it meant 'Down to earth' as in you have to be realistic, so you can't ingnore it because we are all affected by this. Any other suggestions? |
Jack Johnson – Cookie Jar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
@elwyn5150 The meaning about how everyone is to blame, is not personal as in you directly bullied the kid. This character is fictional, though it is based on true stories ofcourse. You may not have bullied a kid in your life, but you may have chosen not to help a kid that was bullied or didn't notice that he was bullied. (and lots of kids are afraid to tell the hell they are going trough) This song is about the American society, where in school there are so many groups and bullying seems part of a natural high school mentality, which really could harm a child in a way that it can make a child freak. Now thousands of studies are going on which try to prove that there is a relation between crimes and media. You have to agree on the fact that no child would know so many different ways of killing a person if it wasn't for the ideas in movies and music. It is our fault in a way that we do nothing about the groups in high schools, the bullying and many children of a young age see movies, images and hear songs that is not appropiate for them. No one is willing to take the blame. Though I have never heard the song you suggested, Nebraska, but after reading it, I have to say that this comparison can not be made. Simply as it has a different motive for murder, he is a way different character and the content of the story has nothing to do with what is stated in Jack Johnsons song. The simplicity of Jack Johnsons song is his style indeed, but it also provides a contrast between the harsh subject he is trying to inform you about and the soft mellow melody. Things do happen for a reson and what I was missing in the Nebraska song was that his cute little reason was having fun, while we all know that healthy people would not seek fun in that sort of activities. You may find Cookie Jar too simple but Nebraska doesn't try to go in depth as Cookie Jar tries to do. Also I found your first sentence quite pointless... |
