| Arctic Monkeys – Cornerstone Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Confusing song. Let's start with what we know for certain: He misses her. He misses her desperately. So much so that he's looking for a girl who looks like her who he can call by the same name--which we know is that much creepy. So much that he makes up, in his head, the idea that he can "smell her scent on the seatbelt"--no, he can't smell it, he's just making it up. Scent is an extremely powerful sense when it comes to memory. He misses her desperately, and he's in such a haze that he's not even sure he existed in the first place. Now, for my two cents. I think that the girl is either dead, or at least gone from the town, somewhere far away. It's very hard to miss somebody in that whey when she lives a few blocks away from you. He misses her so desperately that she must really be out of his reach. This explains why her sister is willing to get with him. Because her sister misses her as well, and he reminds her sister of her. Yeah, pronouns get confusing. What I still don't understand is... The running pirate theme: Battleship, Rusty Hook, Parrot's Beak. What is the implication? That love is lawless and swashbuckle-ey? Parts of the third girl's verse. Why does she have a broken arm? What does it mean that the walls were wet? And... Why did her sister say that she's "really not supposed to?" Did her parents tell her "Don't let anybody call you by your dead sister's name?" Or does she mean that she's really not supposed to be with him? Or that she's really not supposed to have sex, and that's what he was hoping for? |

| Cake – Shadow Stabbing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I could see this being a song about drugs. Or about murder. But... I don't think it's about murder. It might be about drugs... But I think it's more likely that the song is about keeping secrets and telling lies. Adjectives on the typewriter, He moves his words like a prize fighter. The frenzied pace of the mind inside the cell. The person's mind is frenzied because he can't talk to anybody, so he types it all instead. Outside - outside the world. Out there you don't hear the echoes and calls. This makes me think of a zoned-out druggie, a little bit. Iunno. But generally, a guy who's sealed off from the rest of society. Eh, I'd go through the rest, but I'm doing other stuff. |

| Cake – Sheep Go To Heaven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I'm not loving the idea that goats go to hell. Goats rule. But, yeah, I think the song is a little bit like "hey, shit happens. live your life. if you're a sheep, cool. if you're a goat, sucks. just deal with it." |
|
| Cake – You Part The Waters Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it relates to sibling rivalry... Nobody else see that? | |
| Yael Naim – Toxic Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Fuck the original. The original made my ears bleed. Yael Naim's version is incredible. She slows it down, puts a rest in in the middle of one or two words, and get rid of the nails on chalkboard sound, and she turns one of the worst songs I've ever heard into one of the best. | |
| Cake – Nugget Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
A few of the lines in this song make me agree with the view that "Shut the fuck up, learn to buck up" is the serious part. It's Cake telling you to stop being a little bitch. And here's why: 1. "Who look at your face from more than one angle" IE, the "Heads of State" can see more than what you put in front of you. They can see when you're just trying to whine your way through life, and when you're making a resonable request. They've gone and done something with themselves, and you haven't, and now they can cut you from their budgets. They're the "sharpened" knives. They have the "nimble fingers". They are better than you. Yes, they are fucking better than you. 2. "Now nimble fingers that dance on numbers... Steal your thunder." Oh, noes! Because these guys know maths, they are acting like they are all so much better than you, and they're stealing your thunder! Those jerks. You'll show them. Because you're so much smarter. Yeah, your fingers just don't dance on numbers. But ya, besides that, you're perfectly awesome. And the leaders are just the jackasses. 3. The song is called "Nugget." The heads of state are the "sharpened knives", and the poor sheep are the "nuggets". Does "nugget" sound like a kind title? No. They're making fun of you. You are a little chicken McNugget. Maybe, if you were a little sharper, you'd be a little less worthless. On the other hand, the term "Yah" in the chorus reminds us of "Ride and wrangle," which implies that it's coming from the heads of state, and it doesn't make them look good. |

| Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this song cycles; in some regard, it's similar to "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley, in its contrast of an old man and his younger self. The potential he had when he was young; what he achieved. And in the end, he became great, and horrible, and the youth - the same type of young person he used to be - came back against him. At first, you have a young man who is just starting to learn how the world works; "I can take apart the remote control, and I can almost put it back together". He's also relatively innocent. He loves to have fun; he's happy because he can ride his bike with no handlebars. He has a lot of potential, though. By the second verse, he's learned, but he isn't experienced. He's like a new college graduate. He knows everything, but he doesn't know what to do with all that knowledge. He can design an engine sixty-four miles to the gallons of gasoline. He can do incredible things. His potential is through the roof. And he goes on to accomplish everything. He's a dictator in the third verse. "I can do anything with no permission. I have it all in my command." What does he do with that power? "I can lead the nation in a holocaust." Go watch the music video on youtube. Because at this point, there's a battle between the rebellious youth and the experienced, well-equipped adults. And the youth wins. "I can ride my bike with no handlebars." So what's the moral? The youth don't understand as much as the adults do, and the adults don't understand that the youth knows more than they do. The youth is the future, and the adults are the present, and they're trying to live in the same world, and that causes conflict. Ideally, the adults should lead the youth - but that simply doesn't work out. Keep in mind that the default here, though, is hapiness and freedom. |

| Arctic Monkeys – Balaclava Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The song is about blind passion versus genuine understanding. Kids run around causing trouble, not thinking about consequences, simply for the hell of it - and wearing masks to hide from their own selves. The guy and the girl in this song aren't really in love, but they're kids, and kids look for love where it doesn't exist... You HAVE to be in love, or else there's something wrong with you, right? The girl wants to stay with the guy. She doesn't love the thrill the way he does. She doesn't like running from the police and causing trouble. But he does. And she doesn't love him, but she pretends she does, because society tells her to. But she cries when this happens. He doesn't love her either - if he did, he'd let her stay home, rather than putting her through this torture. And he'd show her his true face. But no, he's going to drag her along for the crazy nights of vandalism, because it's more fun if you're not alone. My favorite Arctic Monkeys song. Favourite Worst Nightmare is among the greatest albums I've ever heard. ----- As for the sex/rape ideas - yeah, you could interpret it that way. I've considered it. There's certainly an element of that. "Salty cheeks" might mean something other than tears. But I still think the concept is the same - he wants to be doing it, but he doesn't care about her, and she doesn't want to be doing it, but she feels pressure to, so she does it anyway. |

| Stevie Wonder – You Are The Sunshine Of My Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Compare these lyrics to "Ain't no sunshine"'s. They say the same thing, only Stevie does so in rejoice, while all those singers who sang "Ain't no sunshine," mourned it. Optimism at it's best. Gotta love it. |

| Stevie Wonder – Superstition Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I totally just used this song in an English essay about Huckleberry Finn... =). | |
| The Band – The Weight Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Every verse is just another person dying (which is a good thing for these people; they get to rest in peace. The narrator also wants to die), and leaving behind a "weight" or something they were responsible for for the narrator to take care of. But there's just more and more weight being piled on the narrator, and he wants to die, rest in peace, go to heaven, and be with Fanny, his loved one. And an idea that might clear up confusion on the line about him being a peaceful man... It could be possible that Jack is a hunting dog, and Chester wants the narrator to take care of him by taking him hunting. Oooh, and as for the line, "Go down Miss Moses," just try taking out the "miss", and see what you get. =) There are definitely biblical refrences here, they're just hidden, and figurative. Yes, the setting is litterally Nazareth, PA. But who's to say that they didn't intend for the song to involve Jesus too? I'm sure there are a lot more towns with guitar-factories in the USA than Nazareth. And a lot more names they could have used than "Moses". But I probably wouldn't be the best one to analyze all of that, in being Jewish... So, yeah. Make what you will of it. |

| Stevie Wonder – Uptight (Everything's Alright) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Alright... I was a bit excited when I wrote that. Superstition is still the best song ever... But this song has the best lyrics ever. | |
| Sergio Mendez – Never Gonna Let You Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Somebody find the lyrics to "Berimbau". I want to try singing it... But I have very little idea what he's singing besides that he likes capoeira. | |
| Twista – Hope Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Faith Hill version sounds better... But still, this is an amazing song. " Wish we could keep achieving wonders, See the vision of the world through the eyes of Stevie Wonder," |

| Stevie Wonder – I Just Called To Say I Love You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Dude, ant... They call these songs "Oscar award winners". They are a very proud tradition, which lived all the way until 2004. However, they were stabbed in 2005... So, yeah, the Oscar Songs are dead and meaningless from here on out. | |

I officially have a new favorite RHCP song... How do the RHCP, Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravits fail to show people such a good song? |
|
| Stevie Wonder – Isn't She Lovely Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| If you don't like this song... Well, that's just morally reprehensible. It should be a crime to not like this song. You aren't American... No, you arent HUMAN unless you like this song. It's a totally timeless classic, and people will NEVER stop loving it. This song alone would be enough to make stevie immortal. Although he does have more stuff that renders him undeniably so. | |
| Stevie Wonder – Uptight (Everything's Alright) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
first off... whoever wrote down these lyrics was high. they are out of order and littered with typos. Secondly... Best_Song_Ever. I've changed my mind... Superstition is only second best. I love the lyrics... And I'm rich. It's American- the fact that being born poor isn't a life scentence. And obviously, like much of Stevie's music, it's a love song. It shows that love can conquer all (and leave you in an incredible enough mood to sing a song as uplifting as this one), and for his girlfriend, it has. |
|
| Stevie Wonder – Higher Ground Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| He did it with alicia keys and lenny kravits @ the '04 mtv vma's. It was AMAZING. | |
| Stevie Wonder – Pastime Paradise Lyrics | 19 years ago |

wow... a sick song, lyrically and musically. only expectable from stevie wonder. as well as it's immortality. stevie wonder is totally immortal. and he deserves it. |

| Gnarls Barkley – Crazy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I agree with the idea that he's talking to his younger self, warning himself to be less wild. That makes a lot of sense after seeing the video, because there are two ink blotches of him each time, talking to eachother. It's an example for students to stay in school, and work hard and everything. "I remember when I remember, I remember when I lost my mind There was something so pleasant about that place Even your emotions have an echo in so much space" I remember when- he's setting it up to show you that it's referring to long ago. I lost my mind- I did whatever the hell I wanted. There was something so pleasant about that place- The place where I'd do whatever the hell I wanted and not care about the consequences. "And when you’re out there, without care Yeah I was out of touch But it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough I just knew too much" Without care- not caring about the consequences. I knew too much- I'm not sure, but it's possible that he had a sense of comfort in the way the system of life worked, or that he thought that he already knew enough, while nobody can ever truly be educated well enough. [Chorus 1] "Does that make me crazy? Does that make me crazy? Does that make me crazy? Possibly And now that you are having the time of your life Well think twice That’s my only advice" He knows that his younger self is having the time of his life, but he's warning him that he still has to work hard. It's his only advice because it's so important that nothing else matters. And think about it- if you're talking to your younger self, won't you want to impart all of your wisdom on him? To put it all in one line is a powerful message, no? "Come on now, Who do you, Who do you, who do you, Who do you think you are? Ha Ha Ha, Bless your soul You really think you’re in control? Well…" He was too cocky. Also helps explain "I just knew too much" [Chorus 2] "I think you’re crazy I think you’re crazy I think you’re crazy Just like me" He's talking to himself. Makes sense. "My heroes are at the heart To loose the life I wanna live And all I remember, is thinking I wanna be like them Mmhmm" His heroes were probably uneducated- either soldiers, or violent gangbangers (or possibly even violent rappers). He was confident that he wanted to be like them, rather than being an educated, functional member of society. He was too young to make such an important judgement. "Ever since I was little, Ever since I was little it looked like fun And as no coincidence I’ve come And I can die when I’m done" It looked like fun- to avoid schoolwork and... Whatever. Have fun. Not work. Depends on the person. He left it open because he wants to show the younger generation his mistakes, so that they don't make the same ones. As for the last two lines... I think it's possible that he's saying... That he's not really talking to himself... But he HAS done the right thing in life. And his younger self was just a symbol. It wasn't a coincidence he's come to be so great, but the result of hard work. And now he has lived his life to his heart's content, and is completely satisfied, thanks to the work he did when he was younger, and is prepared to rest in peace. "[Chorus 3] Maybe I’m crazy Maybe you’re crazy Maybe we’re crazy Probably Oooooooo [repeats til end]" |

| Fall Out Boy – Of All the Gin Joints in All the World Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Uhhh... I'm pretty sure it's just "Of All The Gin Joints in The World"... Amazing song... Another one of those Fall Out Boy songs that's hard to dissect... Look at it line by line, then look at the big picture, then flip a coin, and decide how you want to interpret it. |

| Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Beautiful video. the old guy doesn't accept the young guy because he's different, but the old guy is different too. Beautiful. I'm assuming that applies to the song in that... They are going down beacause everybody around them can't accept that they are together... But aren't they apart? Wait, that doesn't make any sense... Uh... Well, you get it. "I'm just a notch in your bedpost, But you're just a line in a song." Capitalize the G. |

| Fall Out Boy – Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| it's just "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy". There's no "tonight" in the title. | |
| The Black Eyed Peas – Pump It Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
for all of you people who are complaining that this is a remake of misirlou, listen to the rest of monkey business. just about all of it is remakes. with the notable exception of gone going gone, which was partially recorded in 2001 but never released. by the way, everybody in the world is aware that that tune is not original to this song. and in case you haven't heard the opening tune to this song before you've heard this song, you need to get out from under the rock you're hiding under. |
|
| The Black Eyed Peas – Positivity Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It is. Too bad it's way past it's release, and was never that popular. This, Sexy, and The Boogie that Be are my favorite bep songs... The only song I like better than them is "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder... | |
| The Black Eyed Peas – They Don't Want Music Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Uh... Dude, you're calling the BEP bad and Prince good? Who votes to ban that guy? Anyway, he's right about the meaning... As long as you take the way he said it, and make it sound positive, because it's a good song, and the BEP are good. |
|
| The Black Eyed Peas – Where Is The Love? (Feat. Justin Timberlake) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I do agree that the BEP are belittling themselves by collaborating with Justin Timberlake. I'm assuming that their record label is making them do it... Or it's just pity. Yeah, the second one. | |
| The Black Eyed Peas – Sexy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
absynce is right about those lyrics. probably one of the best songs of all times. beautiful piano. part of me wants to hook something up so that every time my door opens, this song starts playing... and then every woman who walked into my room would instantly want to have sex wtih me... that would be fun. =). Anyway... sick song. |
|
| The Black Eyed Peas – My Humps Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
scar eire, if anybody is the lead, it's Will. the line IS scrubbas. no, this song doesn't have a serious, profound meaning. it's just meant to be fun. a lot of BEP music is. it's not nececarily bad just because it isn't profound. fun music can be great also. |
|
| The Black Eyed Peas – Let's Get Retarded Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
theangryintern, you're wrong, it's "trench men hits". look at it in context. you are right in saying it's "let's get ignant", though. Note that, by "retarded", they mean slow. Because that's what it literally means. Look it up. They're talking about slowing things down... Which used to make sense to me, somehow... But this is seriously a fast-paced song about fast-paced things... |
|
| The Black Eyed Peas – Don't Phunk With My Heart Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| mattw6, that song was a remake of the 80's song, "I wonder if I take you home". Or something along those lines... I only heard it once, on an airplane... | |
| Fall Out Boy – Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
My personal favorite Fall Out Boy song. I want to watch Dirty Dancing just to see how it connects to this... Anyway, I think it's about her being too good for him, and him desperately trying to cling to that, while also trying to let her free and be with somebody who deserves her. But then he gets jealous and crazy. So he wants to be with her, but he also wants her to be happy, so he's torn inside. Good stuff, huh? |
