Not that one more opinion counts so much on a lyric set with this many already, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents anyway.
Personally I think that "Dani California" is just anthropomorphizing rock'n'roll music. Rock'n'roll as we once knew it no longer exists and even just the generic "rock" genre has fallen by the wayside lately and into the shadows of pop and punk. I think that by mourning "Dani", they're mourning the death of a genre and to a certain degree, an age and culture. |

The meaning could be a lot of things; all I know is that as a disabled person this song means a lot to me. It illustrates the pain of being in and out of hospital with a chronic illness and complications perfectly. |

An interesting spin on the subject is that the word "secondary" is a term in the polyamorous community. A primary partner is your priority, your main boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband, and a secondary partner is the partner who you have "on the side", who is not your main squeeze. From a polyamorous view, this song could be about what it's like to *be* the secondary, the one that isn't as important as the "real" boyfriend, and how much that can hurt. |

One of the things I love about the Stars' lyrics is that they can be interpreted so many different ways. One day a song might have one meaning to me, and the next it will have an entirely different meaning to me. This song, in particular I think, has that effect. |

Hmm, I disagree about the D&s aspect of the song, though it could definitely apply. I think this song is more about using someone under the guise of being their friend or lover. |
