| Showbread – The Jesus Lizard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Reptiles in this album clearly represent humanity, so the Jesus lizard is a human attempting the role of Jesus. I believe it's also more referring to Josh admitting that he, and many others, have had to be their own Jesus, or produce their own salvation, observe: I tried to run across the water and I sank into the deep (I belive "running across the water" is a triple entendre, firstly referring to the Basilisk, or "The Jesus Lizard" which can run short distances across water, which then refers to Jesus walking on the water, and thirdly I see it as a metaphor for attempting to achieve salvation on one's own.) Listlessly beneath the sea, within it’s murky keep (Lost in sin, perhaps? Or worse, lost in pride and delusion.) I want to keep my dinner down but I threw it up today (Bulemia: a common theme in this album along with bugs and reptiles. I see it as binging on sin, or life, and then vomiting it out, rejecting it and proclaiming how disgusting it is, only to ingest it yet again later. See how agonizingly propelled without delay? I can’t breathe and I don’t want to anymore The Jesus lizard tried to love but it’s heart was made of lead (Josh's earlier attempts a love were futile without Christ.) He could not move the way love does so he faked it all instead (Any Christian is familiar with "going through the motions") The Jesus lizard wants to be the center of your ray of light (Pride and sense of not needing Christ becomes and idol) But any light he has yet to see, no light is in his sight I tried to pull the nails from you Out of your hands and feet And when I tried I made you die and yet you came back for me (Betraying Christ in the worst way, attempting to get along without him after this sacrifice.) If I drag myself throughout this world If I throw up everyday Will you still see that I’m still here? I’m waiting in all of my ways "I am God" the lizard said Alpha, omega end with me The sun was hot upon his head So he tried to run across the sea |

| Showbread – Naked Lunch Lyrics | 19 years ago |
William S. Burroughs garnered the title "Naked Lunch" from Jack Kerouac (I understand that it's spelled wrong, but no one is allowed to chastize me lest they have read three pieces of his work) who said it referred to that moment when the piece of food was on your fork, right about to enter your mouth, and you fully comprehend and truly *SEE* what you're about to ingest, it's a moment of realization and truth. In this the nakes lunch is a realization of being a hypocrite, but at the same time willingly ingesting this bit of news and simply ignoring it with the use of "bug powder" (a reference the the Cronenberg movie of the same name). |

| Showbread – A Llama Eats A Giraffe (And Vice Versa) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Roeben: There is no point. Whether Christian or Nihilist Earth makes no sense, gives nothing to us, holds no truth nor sanctuary, both realize in an existentialist way that's it's all nothingness, vanity, and in this way are they similar. Indeed, the only difference between these two is Christ does indeed offer hope beyond life, but nihilism offers no hope beyond life. |

| Project 86 – ...And The Rest Will Follow Lyrics | 19 years ago |
My interpretation of "The Hand the Furnace The Straight Face" term is that of one disguising pain. Like a man with his hand in the furnace holding a straight face, not showing the horrible pain he's in. Also just of how simplistic it would be to remove one's hand from the fire. A big theme in this album seems to be leading oneself into destruction (Doomsday Stomp e.g.) I don't believe this is any different in the sense we're holding our own hand in the pain of this world while there's a simple solution, just remove the hand. As for the song: Tough Stuff. I think the words have different meanings, and some lines refer to other songs. All I've figure out is "Rest" seems to refer to the song "The Hand, The Furnace, The Straight Face" which is all about finding peace and rest, so it seems as if you remove your hand from the furnace Rest will follow. |

| Project 86 – The Hand, The Furnace, The Straight Face Lyrics | 19 years ago |
When I first heard the term "The Hand, The Furnace, The Straight Face" my initial visual image was of a man setting his hand on top of a furnace showing absolutely no pain, straight face, nothing, either no phasing him or he's hiding the pain. I'll go with the hiding the pain interpretation. The song seems to be about finding solace from pain, from the memories that haunt us. Perhaps the term Hand, Furnace, Straight Face is referencing disguising pain and not actually fixing it by just removing our hand from the furnace. No? |

| Project 86 – Circuitry Lyrics | 19 years ago |
At first glance this song looks dirty, I like to think of it in the sense of the brain (and possible drugs, but I don't think so.) this is all a long shot though. If you want to find me I'll be. Lost Lost in your circuitry [lost in memory? The "circuitry of the brain" perhaps.] The only home for me Not unlike Heavenly, pulsating, moistening Infinite holy mystery [It can be referring to the brain, trust me, it's pulsating, moistening, and an infinite holy mystery] Fear I not Tear I not Leave I not Inside this [this is where I question my brain theory, as this sounds a lot like escapism into narcotics, read on into the "Soma" section.] Horizon lines I know too well [Tears? Boundries? The Axon of the Soma in Neuron Cells which transfer information?] Soma, Soma [A Soma is the body of the neurons in the brain, it also refers to a body, it also refers to the drug in Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World"] Running, Running Down [My theory? Soma is memory, and then the "running, running down part is referring to tears from the memories.] Soma, Soma Running, Running Down (Horizon lines I know too well) [this valididates a lot of my above theory] (2x) If you want to find me I'll be. Lost Lost in this sound and Lost in this dream [Sounds like being lost in memory to me] That I've lived, I've breathed (I've lived and I've breathed) This melancholy sadness This manic extreme But what if they find us and what if you leave? (2x) [?] Are you peaking yet? Soaring, defying The height The valley The imminent gravity [This sounds like either drug use, or a schizo-affective disorder like bi-polar. Seen above when he mentions the "Manic Extreme"] All I wanna do is just stay here with you (2x) [Stay with the happy memories in his brain?] What if they find us and What if you leave? You're hurting for me In my ears so perfectly We're peaking together In this sonic revelry Hold me Hold me Hold me [I don't know, know it just sounds like sex again. Sorry, no ideas] Soma, Soma Running, Running Down Soma, Soma Running, Running Down (Horizon lines I know too well) (2x) All I wanna do is just stay here with you |

| Project 86 – Necktie Remedy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
You say: Make me into something Give me a body [Asking for a meaning, an existence] And you say: Let me out the bottle Make me into someone [A bottle of liquor is the answer this person choses to give their life meaning and existence, or at least dim the lack of it] You can give me life [Or semblance of life] And I'll trade The potion you embody [the potion it embodies is indeed life, or a healing elixer, something helpful] with Trips down the well [going the opposite direction of what is wanted] and a swing from a necktie remedy, necktie remedy. [I see this in two ways. the first being the most plausable: That alcohol is the remedy for the necktie, or an escape from everyday life, and since the song is about escapism, this is likely. The second way is I visualize someone patching up something using a necktie, obviously the wrong choice of tool but effective none the less.] You can give me life... Let me in, Let me in You'll raise your drinks up high You'll raise your drinks up high [Like a toast] You say: "The sugarcube mixture saves the day." You say: "The green cloudy waters will take you away." [As snarerushjunkie mentioned, this is indeed referring to Absinth, a popular drink for artists as the herbs and wormwood it is formed out of enhance one's artistic ablity, used by Vincent Van Gohe regularly] But when dawn floods in With the day [Coming out of the inebriated state, not a "high" per say, more of an imagined high] The journey I imagined [Illusion of progress] brought Me right back here to a swing from a necktie remedie, necktie remedie [escapism again, even the excuse of "art" doesn't conceal escapism, call a spade a spade] You can give me life... Let me in, it's cold in this abyss Let me in cause it's cold You'll raise your drinks up high and swallow to forget You'll raise your drinks up high We'll swallow to forget Let me in. [Pretty self explanatory in the context of alcohol, for anyone who's indulged, it's nice.] You'll be vacant Repossessed For those moments (That you) occupy me. Now let's make me something in and of myself And become the cataclysmic reality So far beyond the symptom, I, limitless when you empower me Because habit takes root in decision And you can bet that I can wait If you can For the moment when you need a little pick me up A little bump A little boost A little helping hand. [This is inebriation talking, it's enticing.] Let me in, it's cold in this abyss Let me in cause it's cold You'll raise your drinks up high and swallow to forget You'll raise your drinks up high And swallow to forget You'll raise your drinks up high |

| Project 86 – Last Meal Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I see this as the perfect companion song for "Little Green Men" the powers that be that are plotting against this young [wo]man and others like him/her and now that the fruits of their labor are ripe, and properly grown amongst the carefully constructed burdens and obstacles in the way of this life. Keep in mind this album was written with books such as Brave New World and 1984 in mind, so this is most likely a "Big Brother" figure speaking, only corporation not government. |

| Project 86 – Hollow Again Lyrics | 19 years ago |
A lot of this song is referring to mine (and possibly Schwab's...) favorite poem: T.S. Elliot's "The Hollow Men" "We Are the Hollow Men, The Stuffed Men, With Heads Full of Straw" My tip off was the line about "This is how the World ends...Again" in Hollow Men the final lines are "This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper." The entire poem is about looking back on life and the people within it, the "Truthless Heroes" and "Hollow Men" and seeing how meaningless and empty the entire ordeal was. In an apoclyptic prediction he presumes that society will eventually just choke itself out rather than a doomsday sort of drama. So, if we look at it from this perspective the character is perhaps looking back on the futility of his life? |

| Project 86 – Doomsday Stomp Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Let's play a little game On scribbled paper You guess the letters And I'll draw the hanging man [The game of hangman, you have so many chances until you lose, the world has had it's chances, and will still have many more but eventually will run out] Hint number one is Five letters inscribed over The lips of eyeless woman [I agree with snowman, this does begin fitting the profile of "The Whore of Babylon" mentioned in Revelations, there's multiple beliefs on what it refers to, but I think it refers to society as a whole, so the word "Whore" is branded all over the blind society which has rejected a jealous God, read Habbakuk where God refers to Isreal as a whore which rejected him.] Asking me for needles and a thread to sew her head back together again [A quick fix, not searching for God, searching for a stop gap solution] She reaches forward And grabs ahold of my sleeve Her antennae wrap around me Her lungs infect me as she breathes... [Not sure, perhaps the enticement of the world and society as a whole?] The roadkill scent of violent city [Pretty straightforward, it reeks of death and disgustingness] Oh swollen anthill sore [Putting us in perspective, existentially speaking we are nothing more than insects meaninglessly playing out our lives all while death is hovering above our heads] Insects desperate cries [Once society realizes it's chances are up, it'll repent "Every Knee Shall Bow"] Oh infected for Doomsday stomp from the skies [The Stomp is coming for them.] This town made its guesses But can't spell her own name [Helps out the "Whore" theory a bit] A five letter word for the oncoming plague A stick figure dangling from stoplight grave [Chances are up] |
