*shakes head* Why argue about the meaning? It's one of those songs that's free to interpret; take it however you want it, whether it's heroine or a relationship...think whatever means the most and makes more sense to you. You're free to do that, you know. ^.~ Anyway...I've formed my own meaning from it, and I personally look at it in a relationship perspective. Me and my fiancee were sitting together and this song came on. We just kinda smiled and snuggled up next to each other in the candlelight. ^_^ To me, this song stresses that if you're really, truly in love that silence CAN be stronger than words. If you're in love, you can feel it...you don't need words. Words pass with time, but love is constantly present. I'm not saying I don't like sweet little nothings, but you know what I mean. ^_^ |

I believe in God, but that doesn't keep me from adoring this song. I mean, any religious person has their doubts about what's above them, what's in the afterlife etc...but, anyway. This song is BEAUTIFUL...words, lyrics, vocals, everything. It's one of those songs that fill you with emotion. This is why I love Depeche Mode. |

I think this is one of those songs you can make your own interpretation from, whether you see it as being sung to a friend, a mother, a sister, a girlfriend...whatever. That's the beauty of Bob Marley's music; people can make their own meaning out of it. Personally, I have really beautiful memories with this song. My fiancee moved to North Carolina, and he's a HUGE Bob Marley fan...when he comes down to visit, he'll sing this song to me and we'll dance to it. It's kind of our song. Now, he's moving back down, and everything really IS alright. This song is very emotional for me, and it's very beautiful...I love it. |

The beauty of this song is that it could be about anything. Personally, I'm under the impression it's more or less about about abortion...but there are some lyrics that don't really fit. I love it because its open to interpretation, it makes you think, and you can get so many messages from it. Truly great song. |

To me, this song makes the impression of a broken relationship. Guy/girl, obviously...I -do- think "candle" is a metaphor for heart...or maybe even innocence. The guy gives it back, and of course the girl is hurt. He feels guilty, but he wants her to find herself again and be the girl she used to be again. He believes she can do it without him. |

This is the first song I ever heard by VAST, and I fell absolutely in love. It's a short song with short lyrics, but yet it manages to capture so many emotions and so much love. The instruments are AMAZING, and the lyrics/vocals are just totally mindblowing. It's such a bittersweet song for me...but I could listen to it all day and not get tired of it. |

I don't know...my theory behind this song is kind of simple. Obviously, Otep is extremely talented and creative. And obviously, from what I've gathered from her music...she's gone through a lot of pain. So I think this song is more or less just about the pain and strife, self-conciousness and insecurity she may feel. It's everything she feels in her head that runs through her mind, released on paper and through song. It's the way society tries to brainwash us. She realizes no one can save her from this, so her solution will be her voice, her poems, her songs. Look at the lyrics really closely, it's not hard to interpret. It's just a deep, intense, emotional song; it's her release. About her feelings and her art. Either way, that's my thoughts on it...wish I could explain it a wee bit better. ^_^ Wonderful song, though...it's so powerful and so fucking intense it gives me cold chills when I listen to it. Insanely, yet beautifully creepy in a way...especially if you're in total pitch darkness when you're listening to it. 'Nuff said. o.O |

Hamstertube, relax. It's a SONG. One of the purposes of writing and performing songs is to release tension and strong emotions. Just because Otep wrote a song about it doesn't mean she really wants to slaughter every man on earth (why would she if there's men in her band? Think about that...) and it certainly doesn't mean she hates them. Again, it's A SONG...yes, look at it, listen to it, search for it's meaning, but DON'T TAKE IT SO GODDAMN LITERALLY. |
