I would say the entire last stanza has a darker meaning than people are giving it credit for. "Mother don't worry I've got a coat and some friends on the corner" The imagery of the coat and the men on the corner references the trade of drugs. Everyone's seen the common image of the hustler on the corner in the trench coat. "Mother don't worry she's got a garden were planting together" If related to the first line I would take this to mean that he is growing marijuana or the likes. The pups on the pantry alludes to the fact that one can be "infected" at any time. This seems to be supported by the change in the chorus: "Sons could be birds, taken -broken- up to the mountain" in which he admits that he is no longer stable. |

One of Tunng's most Beautiful and haunting songs. I cant believe no one has commented. Personally I believe the lyrics express the speaker's jealous, vindictive emotions after he discovers that his lover has expressed affection towards "Sweet William." |

| I think that the lyrics “Our new times are the worst ties” and “Because the softest lips tell the most precious secrets,”indicates that the speaker had broken up with this girls and ever since she’s been making false stories about him or disclosing highly personal information, therefore, she euphemistically dubs herself a poet, and he’s telling her she isn’t. “Forget the bells tolling an hour of redemption, a fancy you’ve never been given” is the speaker telling her that spreading the pretentious and revealing information about him will not solve anything. “Forget” just means he wants her to put the past behind her and stop. The lyrics “Because the softest lips tell the most precious secrets” are only on certain copies of “Eronel” and the live version which can easily be found on “A Retrospective.” Also, Billy dislikes Becoming the Truth Because it is Saetia’s first song and He disliked the lyrics feeling as they were just a mistake and not as good as the others. | |

I think this has to do with self deprecation in all forms. Also, I think this song could refer both to cutting and substance abuse. But I doubt suicide.
