Being a slave to conformity is a bitch of a life. Society says the 'ideal' life is pursueing that goddamn American Dream. They say the way to be a good person and patriot is to comply to the system and shut your fucking mouth. That's a FUCKED UP life. We live in a time where sedition is patriotism. Where democracy makes more talk less action. I think that Greg is saying that society is bound in slavery to the lies of the system and they're not really living. |

This song is one of my favorite BR songs. It's talking about the bible thumping bullshit of society and how people just conform to it without even thinking about what the 'experts' are telling them. They never think for themselves. Growing up, everyone is taught to respect what their elders say and they're conditioned into that mentality without even questioning what what the experts are telling you. When you grow up you find out that their religious views are just dogmatic opinions. Most people just comply to the opinions and follow them because it's easier. As a pacifict and agnostic soldier I say,"FUCK THAT!" 'Look for truth, quit seeking forgiveness,' in the words of Sage Francis. That's what I say and I think that's another thing this song is talking about. 'I don’t even know if I can never find truth but I’m sure it won’t come from following you.' The guy in the song is 'gonna get the hell outta here,' as he says or quite kidding himself that compliance to the Truth(belief in a deity) is real and he decides to rebuke the status quo of conformity to religion out of fear of failure and compliance. So the person in the song decides to find the truth(looking inward to himself) and go out to find what is true on his own. I may be wrong on the meaning of the lyrics, but I know it kicks ass. |
