okay. I like how many of you have guesses on what this is about. It kind of could be about all of those. I like thrice and all, but all of these lyrics come from the Bible where Jesus gave his Sermon on the Mount. It's a great song, great lyrics, but Thrice didn't really write those lyrics, they kind of rearranged what the Bible said. Not that's a bad thing, i think it came out great. |

I would like to address one thing. Alot of people are saying that this song is alot like MaryJane's Last Dance. That's true because it is the same chord progression. This doesn't make it a bad song. One other thing that is copied is the solo. If you listen to it, you'd find that it is the same as Purple Haze just a different key. Like I said, this doesn't make them bad song writers, the lyrics are awesome.
Another song that is the same way is Smells Like Teen Spirit. Nirvana borrowed that proggression fromMore than a Feeling by Boston. |

He was not a feminist. What the hell are you talking about? He strongly disagreed with having groupies in the band and was married to Courtney. He never raped anyone and would never had tried to. I don't know what biography you read but whichever one it was is total bullshit. |

I think it is about drugs. He is talking about getting high then coming back when he talks about the clouds. Also, he is saying he is dumb for getting into it but distracted by the good feeling so he's happy. |

I believe is about Kurt accepting all fans although he hates jocks and rednecks. He is comforting drug addicts and all with hard lives where he says "Come, doused in mud, soaked in bleach." He means that if you are covered by your past, come listen to this music and you'll revive. Also, bleach is used to clean needles for heroin use, so he is accepting them as well. |

Yeah, okay. Just you need to understand that the internet isn't the place to get the facts. Neither is listening to me, I suppose. Your judgement on whose right is your own. I will admit that some of the "facts" on the cobain site are unsettling, however, I must insist, there was no one near the house when he killed himself. The two "suspects" on cobaincase were outside of the state. It says that the gun was purchased before he left the drug place. Of course it was, he probably planned on committing suicide way before he actually did. Also, it mentions that he never mentioned dying in the suicide note. Well no shit! If he was shot in the chin, people would figure out he was dead pretty quickly.
Another dumb fact is that he left his daughter and his wife with a scarring image. He probably didn't think about that sense he was very manic depressive at the time.
Next, the thing about the excessive heroin and how he didn't need to shoot himself in the face if he had that much heroin, well, he didn't want to screw it up like the last time he tried.
Also, if you wanted to murder some one, why would you shoot them in the chin and put a note next to them.
Finally, like I said earlier, whenever you see his friends and family talk about this, there is no doubt in their minds that he killed himself. However he died, it is a shame we one of the greatest musicians of all time.
It is hard to tell who is right and who is wrong, but I hope you will believ me. |

HE COMMITED SUICIDE DAMN IT!!!!! Anyone who says he was murdered is insulting his memory and doesn't know what they're talking about. Don't give me that "cobaincase.com" bullshit either. Anyone could make a webpage and say that they were the detective for the Kurt Cobain suicide case. You are such a moron. If I told you that I murdered Jimi Hendrix, you would probably believe it.
Everyone who knew Kurt well did not doubt that he committed suicide. Towards the end of his short life, he was suffering from manic deppression and a severe heroin addiction. He had already attempted suicide once before. Don't tell me that was an attempted murder because he was locked up in a Hotel Room.
Plus, he had a fucking suicide note in his handwriting and was written the same way he wrote in his journals. As a kid he always said he planned to kill himself after becoming famous. You know what the album "In Utero" was originally titled? It was originally "I Hate Myself and I Want to Die."
Also, he was alone in his house at the time of his death. Courtney Love was in the fucking UK and Dave Grohl and Novoselic were in California. He was discovered 4 days after his death by an electrician installing an alarm system.
You were not even born when he died, so what do you know kid. I was a big follower of Nirvana at the time and I still love them to death. There is no chance that Kurt was murdered and anyone who thinks he was should grow up, accept the truth and not believe everything the internet tells them. |

I hope you realize that the video has nothing to do with the song's lyrically meaning what-so-ever, but it is kind of fun. I wouldn't say that he acts like Iggy. I mean, he isn't bleeding. He's just being Anthony Keidis. Flea is being Flea the whole duration though. |

I think it is interresting how Chris Cornell compares marriage to death where he says "Someone gets excited in a chapel yard, catches a bouqet. Another lays a dozen white rozes on the grave." He ties them by using flowers because flowers can be used to show rememberance or love and affection. |

Ever thought that this song could have two meanings? It could be about new beginings like he said to a magazine and it could also be about his recovery from a cocaine addiction.
It is very obvious that he is refering to a drug in the very first line. He says "Come to decide that the things that i tried were in my life just to get high on." He then goes onto say "The more I see the less i know, the more i know to let it go." This represents the conflicting forces in him. One is saying that he depends on it where as the more he knows to let it go.
So if you tie those two together it could be about drugs and fresh beginings. These fresh beginnings are after a drug addiction and how Anthony is recovering from a tough addiction. He would probably tell the press that it wasn't about drugs because if he said it was about drug even the slightest bit, they would post all over the world that he was still addicted to yayo. |

Yeah, if you listen to this song trying to make sense of the lyrics, it sounds quite trippy. There is no significance, in my mind of the lyrics, however, it is a great song because of the guitar riff and solo. |

I also like the part in the song where Anthony says "Lookin down the barrel of a hot metal 45, Just another way to survive." This could be talking about her going into armed robbery and it is the way she has chosen to live.
One thing I don't understand is how sex got into this picture. He says "Simultaneous release" which has a sexual meaning to it which is weird because he was just talking about a character who is a girl who lives fast. |

I agree, but calm down dude. One thing I don't agree with is that music does need talent.
Slipknot and Rammstein are two examples of The Backstreetboys of Rock Music. None of them can play music, they can't sing, and no one can understand why they are getting payed to do what they're doing.
Now this is a very interesting song, but it doesn't take much analysis to understand what they're saying. It's a story meant to scare you about what children are growing up with now. |

One thing that is getting mixed up is two different rape storis. There was one rape insident that produced the song Polly that everyone has heard about now. The victims name in that insident is private and was not released to the press. However, there was a second insident where a group of 3 men raped a young girl named Polly thinking that Kurt Cobain had told them to do so. The whole time they were abusing her, they sung Kurt's song Polly. At the end, the young girl Polly was dead.
As you might expect, Cobain was devastated. He then took his old song Polly and reproduced it to a more fuzzy recording which became (New Wave) Polly on Incesticide. |

| David Gilmour – On an Island Lyrics

I think this song is Gilmoure remembering the sixties. He was one of those hippy/druggies that deviated from the norm. The island is, to my belief, talking about this place they could all go. At the beginning, he says "Sharing a dream, on an island, it felt right." See what I mean? the dream was an idea of a peaceful earth.
Also it says at the end that "Dreamers may leave, but they're here everafter." This could be referring to the fact that although the sixties ended, we'll never forget them. |

If you hate Metallica so much, why would you go to the section of the sight with nothing but METALLICA SONGS!? Error Error Panic, it's "that legendary DIVORCE is such a bore." It says it in the In Utero booklet, so that's how Kurt wrote it.
One interesting point in the song is where he says "If she floats than she is not, a witch like we had thought." This, to my belief refers to the fact that Courtney Love, his wife, was getting alot of grief from the media and Kurt is saying that it reminds him of the Salem Witch trials. Also, the rest of the song is refering to his childhood, especially to his asshole father. The legendary divorce could be the divorce of his parents when he was young. Also, sense he disagreed with his father and never could talk to him as an adult he had him as a dad, not a father. A father is a more formal term whereas dad is more childlike. Like Umbilical chord says, he apologizes. It is kind of half-ass though because he explains that he did hate him earlier in the song.
If you think I'm wrong please tell me.
In reference to Cobain's death, anyone who says he was murdered or anything other than suicide is stupid as hell. He had a suicide note in his handwriting and his language. Anyone could say otherwise and make a website and say that they were the investigator at the scene. They didn't need one and didn't have one. Everyone around him and close to him knew he committed suicide. Hell, I could say that I murdered Jimi Hendrix and half of these retards would believe me.
Thinking that Kurt Cobain did not committ suicide 12 years after his death is an insult to his memory. If you think he was murdered then fuck you. |

I agree with lil rocker. The character Dani is a representation of a criminal who grew up in a poor area and was forever affected. "She never knew that there was anything more poor." Later on in the song it says "On her merry way saying baby watcha gonna" which is a challenge saying, what are gonna do about my life style to change it.
By the way, if your going to make a post MCR 555, make sense, don't just say shit like "I love this song!" |
