The Dismemberment Plan – Superpowers Lyrics 17 years ago
He has the power to empathise with others, however it's not enough to save anyone.

"I guess you could call it superpowers
but no one is going to save the world with what I've got
an indigo light from silvery towers
surrounded by rocks and stones as far as the eye can see"

All he can do is be there, and the silvery towers is a lighthouse that he is comparing himself with. He'll be there to show people a safe route but it's no guarantee to save them because they are subject to the water's will, which he has no control over.

Radiohead – Just Lyrics 17 years ago
The lyrics sound like an accurate account of someone with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).

The chorus, in particular, is a great indication.
"you do it to yourself, you do
and that's what really hurts.."

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the symptoms of OCD, the person is usually so overcome by obsessive thoughts of dread that they cannot function correctly unless the feeling is extinguished. They do this usually by following a ritualized habit that they have assigned to individual thoughts. By doing so, however, they further trap themselves within a loop of self-aware repetition.

And that's the feeling I get from this song.

It starts off as the guy trying to come to terms with his OCD, finding himself weak to the resistance, unlike his friends. Then he proceeds in his attempts to ignore the urges but it's no use, and he knows he's a goner.

In the beginning of the clip it shows the man standing before the bathtub and he reluctantly gets in. Obsessive cleanliness is usually linked to OCD and the atmosphere is grey and bleak. He walks to work wearing a suit and suddenly he looks at the sky and has an overwhelming urge to lay down on the pavement. He doesn't let anyone touch him or help him up...They ask him why he's doing that and I believe the unrevealed line is a paranoid thought along the lines of, "they see you walk". When everyone lays down in the end, it only further reveals the complete helplessness someone is to the condition.

Nurses – Alone at last Lyrics 17 years ago
"The lyrics are a bit cryptic intentionally. This song, along with a lot of the rest of the record, is a lot about figuring out what I’m about and how I fit in, particularly in regards to my family and what I imagine their expectations are. There were a lot of things that I wanted to express without spelling them out literally and making myself clearly understood, so as not to upset anyone. I suppose writing songs with messages directed at specific people and then making them cryptic enough so that they can’t understand them is a bit paranoid. I also think it’s neat to keep the song ambiguous so that anyone can interpret it however they want." - Aaron Chapman

Incubus – Warning Lyrics 18 years ago
As someone else has pointed out 10:24 refers to a bible scripture;

(To make it easier I'll repeat it here)

"Correct me, LORD, but only with justice-
not in your anger,
lest you reduce me to nothing." - Jeremiah 10:24

This person is asking how to better themselves and how to live their life correctly.
However, the verse alone isn't enough of an explaination, to fully understand it you have to know who Jeremiah was and the important role that God gave him. The book of Jeremiah was written by the prophet Jeremiah to illustrate the coming catastrophe bestowed on the nation of Jerusalem and his plight to WARN THE PEOPLE OF THIS COMING EXILE. That had been his instruction from God and while his approaches were mostly ignored by the people he tried everything, no matter how ridiculous it made him look.

I hope that the parallels are starting to show. The girl in the clip is like Jeremiah, she went out to warn the nation, she did whatever it took, she screamed in their faces, disrupted classes, stood in traffic, etc. Unforunately, she failed in the end. In the scripture they are given hope in restoring the nation. I don't believe the clip or the song has anything to do with the rapture or 2012 specifically, it is more of a commentary on how society are unresponsive to warnings. They always wait until the last minute to do something, but by then the problem is too far-gone.

"When will we learn?
When will we change?
Just in time to
See it all knock down
Those left standing...will make millions
Writing books on the way it should have been"

Don't allow your life to become an experiment for someone to observe after you die. Make the most of it while you are alive. It's also saying that people rely too much on books to tell them what to do, as if there is a step-by-step guide to life. But this method will only turn everyone into mindless robots, at which they would not deserve a life at all as it would be pointless. Don't put your life to waste.

LOL, that almost seems like a rant. I hope it wasn't too boring or complicated, I tend to get an influx of thoughts.. Before I saw the clip, the song seemed a lot more simple but I have to admit, the whole 10:24 was a touch of brilliance.

The Faint – Ballad of a Paralysed Citizen Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with what most have said, the only thing I have to add is in referral to the "elemental line". I feel there is more to it. As a lot of you have already mentioned, a trained life-guard would know better not to jump into the shallow end, this point was also stressed in the song in the line..

"To save a child; dive - into the shallow floor"

It's (the line above) about weighing the life of a child against following rules, in this case - "No diving in shallow waters". In most cases "no diving" signs are illustrated with a figure diving enclosed in a circle with a line across.

"Dive - I arced my feet to dive, I broke the elemental line"

(definition)
el·e·men·tal
adj.
2.
a. Fundamental or essential; basic.
b. Of or relating to fundamentals; elementary.
c. Constituting an integral part; inborn.

Therefore it's this line that they are referring to. I do believe the speaker was the guard. Definately a great song, it carries the same vibe as in 'Violent'

Rx Bandits – In Her Drawer Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with most of what everyone has already said, it is a great song and has some of the best lyrics I have ever heard. I also enjoyed how the music set the mood for the different stages that he coped with.

This is the way I see it;

1st verse: He is taking the pills for the first time.
2nd verse: The pills take effect and he feels a sort of detachment from himself and he is trying to be heard.
"Won’t you put your guns in the ground?". the pills have lowered his defences.
3rd verse: When he visits the doctor they tell him it's all ok and he will stay sane as long as he continues to take those pills everyday.
4th verse: There is a change in tempo. He is in another daze from the pills but as he tries to get on with his life he finds it difficult since he feels like an outsider in his own body. While he is trying to come to terms with this, he finds out that this girl takes pills also, yet she doesn't claim it all as hers.
5th verse: He realises that he has been sucked into a marketing scheme and that society are purposely neglecting to find a real cure.
6th verse: he grows desperate for an alternative solution and he asks the girl if she wants her life to turn out like everyone elses.

Assemblage 23 – Madman's Dream Lyrics 18 years ago
The dream is obviously about the Hurricane Katrina tragedy in New Orleans (2005), and more importantly; the delayed rescue services received from the US government, which left thousands of americans feeling betrayed and neglected along with the loss of their homes, possessions and loved ones.

Now into the chorus, the singer questions the scenario of the "dream" in order to determine reality. He appears to be in some delusion over the ordeal and refuses the truth believing that only a madman could think this. Therefore he is in complete denial over his country's actions, claiming it to be crazy.

However, over the next few verses he starts to realise the harsh truth. "Tomorrow's dream is yesterday's news" means that he will dream a madman's dream again, it will never change.

Pixies – Monkey Gone to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
if man were being referred to as the monkey, then why are they going to heaven after all the shit they've done?

Unless in the first verse the monkey is referred to as the guy who controlled the sea, and then in the second verse it's referred to the creature in the sky. It's almost like ticking them off from a list.

what i love about this song is the imagery, the language they use is very simple yet effective. sometimes you don't need a lot of words to get an image across, it's very cool and that's what i like about it.

And as Teniel first suggested (and it seems everyone has ignore), man is 5 because its our own magic number. we have 5 fingers, 5 toes, and just to spice it up a bit, the vitruvian man by da vinci shows man in the shape of a 5 pointed star.

Pixies – Where Is My Mind? Lyrics 19 years ago
I only heard this song about 2 months ago, since then i've listened to their wave of mutilation compilation and i also like 'monkey's gone to heaven'.

the funny thing is, i heard the opening riff to 'where is my mind' in another song first. End of fashion had used the same opening riff in their then recent single "Oh yeah", so when i finally listened to 'where is my mind' i was like WTF?!! but this song kicks more ass!!

now everytime i hear that intro i get excited, then anxious because it never turns out to be the pixies song..
so DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!
