Steve Miller Band – Jet Airliner Lyrics 13 years ago
Not knowing much about the history of the song, mine is a very literal interpretation, and the original experience by Paul Pena sort of bears this out, about this being his first time on a plane.

Me personally, I took it to be about an airline pilot who has to fly all around the country and never seeing his family or his friends in his home town and his homesick for them. But he has to work to earn a living, so he hopes that he won't succumb to the temptations that come with the various stopovers and ports of call. So he tries to stay true to his traditional values and stays close to home by upholding them.

Black Sabbath – Children Of The Sea Lyrics 19 years ago
First, I found this on the net:

"Children of the Sea - there has been a lot of speculation that it is about Atlantis, but Dio has only spoke of it as a song about "ecological awareness".

So working off this basic direction, the song seems to be a commentary about mankind doing things before it truly understands the consequences of its action, ie. the reference to sailing across the air, before learning to fly, and thinking that this kind of thing would go on forever without a price to eventually pay for messing with the balance.

And finally, though we try to escape the world and darkening the sky by the millions, like locusts, we are caught in the maelstrom of the final convulsions of the Earth dying along with the Sun.

Aldo Nova – Fantasy Lyrics 19 years ago
In the early 80's when this song came out, this song got lots of radio play. Aldo Nova is from Montreal, I believe, and based on what I read of him, after this song made him a rock star, he partied it up hard, similar to the things mentioned in the Fantasy lyrics.

But aside from that, this song is a classic 80's style power ballad, with heavy duty guitars ranging from distortion through to screaming frenzy during the solo parts. The themes remind me of the 80's movie Scarface, which is also tied to that time frame, with similar themes of pleasure.

Drugs, excess, sex, self-indulgence... driving themes of 80's pop culture and this song got in at the ground floor.

But for all that, when I was a kid in high school, this song was just cool to listen to. And hearing it now, its still a quick trip back to simpler times, when there was still the thrill of imagining all the things that one could be and do, and the heights to which one could rise.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blackeyed Blonde Lyrics 19 years ago
I first heard this song in 1988 or 1989 where the Red Hot Chili Peppers were featured on the skateboarding movie "Thrashin'" and I thought it had a wicked bass line and a funky 70's "wa wa" guitar riffs. It was difficult to make out the words to the song from the movie, cause they kind of run the words together.

Is there an actual video for this song?

Never heard of a "black eyed blonde" before. Perhaps its a reference to French-descended people in Louisiana. Assuming she hasn't been beaten up with 2 black eyes or something, the closest thing I know of are blonde haired girls with brown eyes, and thats due to gene alleles mixing up during meiosis, but I doubt anyone here cares...

The one part of the song I don't like is the part where they "oooh" "uh uh" and then what sounds like a chimpanzee sound, over and over.

If anyone ever does a remix, thats the part they should cut out, and stitch other parts together for a fun funky extended remix.

Nearly 20 years later, its still fun to listen to. Flea does a mean bass.
