Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 19 years ago
Thanks bonzos4sticks - it is extraordinary what people write which is 2nd hand stuff, hearsay and then presented as fact. That's the problem with people relying on the atrocious state of modern media for 'the truth' I imagine ... but I digress.

I came late to Zeppelin (i.e. after they'd split!) but the first time I heard this I was just bowled over - it's got such incredible power and rhythm, kind of inevitable like a steamroller. And the strings and something about its almost discordant notes that really lay on an eastern desert feel. It also has those superb type of Zeppelin lyrics that I love which, combined with the power and tune, create something almost mythic when hearing it. In fact, I'd better go and play it now, see you later.

Hazel O'connor – Will You? Lyrics 19 years ago
It means a great time as I just had the pleasure of being in our local choir and singing this live with Hazel - it was fantastic, though the sax solo wasn't a patch on the actual single release.

But what a great song eh? Will you? Will I? Such a good summary of that tipping point that we've probably all been at. No need to explain really, the song says it better than I ever could!

James Blunt – No Bravery Lyrics 19 years ago
Oops - I meant to add that 'The Grave' by Don MacLean (from American Pie) is also a song in a similar vein, short, simple and an arresting finish. Superb.

James Blunt – No Bravery Lyrics 19 years ago
I've just listened to this and felt again how powerful it is, and how heartfelt. As I listened to the song my feeling was that 'he' referred to Death (that one with the scythe!), stalking the world.

Having read the comments on Kosovo, I would recommend reading Web of Deceit by Mark Curtis for a real eye opener into that and many other aspects of British (and other) policy around the world.

Also, looking at the inner sleeve, I noticed that the musicians are:
Capt. J Blunt L G - piano, vocals
Col L Perry - guitar
Pte P Ill - bass
Cpl B McLoud - drums

Curiously none of these people play on any other tracks on the album - anyone know what's going on here? Were they friends of his who died in service and he's honouring them in this song?
