Our Lady Peace – Big Dumb Rocket Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm not trying to say the gun story is wrong. It's right. Just throwing out another interpretation I had.

When I first heard this song when I was younger, I always thought it was about a guy getting together with the girl he wanted, but was afraid that all she wanted was sex. At the risk of sounding immature, the "Big Dumb Rocket" is a reference to his penis. Rocket is a common euphemism for a penis and so is a gun.

It doesn't fit entirely, but like I said, it was just an initial interpretation you might find interesting. May sound immature but it does work.

Matthew Good – Blue Skies Over Bad Lands Lyrics 19 years ago
"Just understand understanding"

The entire meaning of the song is summed up in those three words. Basically, he is trying to paint a picture for the listener about the state of the world. How our enemies are people too. In the middle of the night, if you could float off to the opposite side of the globe, you would see other human beings like yourself, lonely and cold, going through hard (or harder) times.

This truly is a brilliant song, both lyrically and musically. I heard somewhere that Matt took an upright piano and plucked the strings by hand to get the sound he wanted. Simply incredible, not to mention unique.

Although I admit, on the first listen, it didn't touch me instantly. Possibly because of the slow start. But anyone who hasn't yet listened to this song, give it a solid chance. My favourite part is somewhere around 5:30 into the song. For about two minutes, you experience an incredibly passionate, yet soothing solo. This is what music is all about.

The Smashing Pumpkins – 1979 Lyrics 19 years ago
Just want to try and see if I can clear up some of the "zipper blues" confusion.

Personally, I always thought that line was a double meaning about the promiscuity of teenagers. On one hand, "we don't even care, to shake these zipper blues" means it's no big thing to teens to lose their pants and get sexual with each other, and "zipper blues" is the pants (jeans, typical teenage clothing).

On the opposite side, it symbolizes sexual frustration. Getting the "blues" from being trapped behind a "zipper".

System of a Down – Aerials Lyrics 19 years ago
theeviltwin, your interpretation is on the right track, but I don't think death is the waterfall, I think life is. The very first lyric is "life is a waterfall" afterall.

The river is the beginning, wherever our 'souls' or whatever come from. The waterfall is life, as it is more chaotic than the river and the water is separated. But after the waterfall is over, the water is just back to being a river.

"One in the river, and one again after the fall"

Thornley – The Lies That I Believe Lyrics 19 years ago
It took a while for this song to grow on me, but it has in a big way. After a few listens, the genius of this song became more evident.

Proves that simple is sometimes better.

Breaking Benjamin – Unknown Soldier Lyrics 19 years ago
I see Shenn's and BennyLoverColdHead's point of view, and it fits. But I think the song is about a soldier in war (the song is called "Unknown Soldier" afterall). It's a bit cliché nowadays, as just about every band has at least one anti-war song on their album. But BB doesn't do a bad job at all, and in fact this was the first song that stood out to me.

I think it's about what goes through the mind of a soldier when he takes a life. That "unknown soldier" he killed was a person too. "How do I, simplify, dislocate the enemies on the way".

"Show me what it's like, to dream in black and white" is the soldier wishing he could see war as "black and white" like the people who aren't on the front lines see it. To them, everything is black and white... if you see an enemy, you kill him. Killing can't be watered down like that and made so easy.

Breaking Benjamin – Evil Angel Lyrics 19 years ago
After listening to the cd several times, this song is probably one of the tracks that stands out as one of my favourites.

The verses are soothing and the chorus is haunting. The song also showcases the growth in Ben Burnley's voice as a singer.

Sevendust – Xmas Day Lyrics 19 years ago
I am a music fanatic, and my taste is extremely diverse. I have to say, through all the music I listen to, this is definitely one of the single most well written songs I've heard. Absolutely brilliant.

Just wanted to throw my two cents into this whole "Mom or Lover" discussion. I believe it is about his mother, and how the relationship has deteriorated to the point that it is unsalvagable. (But it's too far gone/and this love must die).

The reason I think it is about a mother? Xmas Day = Ex Ma's Day. Make sense?
