This song has a second meaning which I have intepreted. It could be about someone who has risen to fame, and their partner is behind them, but feels shut out. This is because the partner knows what the person is really like. "Oh you look so beautiful tonight, in the city of blinding lights" This could mean this person looks beautiful to the flashbulbs of a camera, but "what happened to the beauty inside of me" means that this person knows who they truly are Fantastic song, one of the best by U2. Although it is certainly one of the best two songs on the HTDAAB album, I think Miracel Drug edges it as a better song |

This is a song about losing someone who you care for deeply. "Who's to say where the wind will take you?" reminds me of a spirit going up to Heaven, yet the person who has lost someone is saying 'but I can't follow you there, it's a road I cannot take'. A beautiful song. |
