The Hold Steady – Girls Like Status Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the line "kinda sounded like a locus" is actually "kinda sounded like the Locust" as in the noise band. It'd fit with all the other music references.

Regina Spektor – Somedays Lyrics 19 years ago
This--I find--is another of Spektor's songs which have the connotation of suicide and/or depression, but the music deters the message.

This one could be about wasting away in an apartment; living without the zeal to even get up from the bed, couch, whatever. Or it could be about loss. Then there's the lines about someone's daughter, which sticks out like a sore thumb.

This song is more complicated than most of her's, really.

Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics 19 years ago
This song always plagued my mind because of its complicated messages. I never really had a theory, but I saw a comment here saying something about Americans blaming European--mainly Jewish and Irish--immigrants on their problems, and that seems to me like the best interpretation of the words.

The fact that Spektor is a Jewish-Russian immigrant makes it stick even more.

Regina Spektor – Sailor Song Lyrics 19 years ago
Yes, I as well figure more that Mary Anne is a boat. Why I don't think Mary Anne's a girl is because of the line "and we miss the girls back home". Because, if Mary Anne was a girl, that line would really be odd in the song.
