think about it. drinking a lot, waking up hung over, dark circles under your eyes, hence "raccoon eyes."

The Mountain Goats – Against Pollution Lyrics 19 years ago
my thoughts were that the "decorative grating on my window" is referring to the grating of the windows in a prison cell. he says "my window" and i don't think one would call a window in a church or liquor store they worked at theirs.

The Dresden Dolls – Girl Anachronism Lyrics 19 years ago
amanda is an exhibitionist. she's very dramatic in her mind. and she knows it, and she's having a laugh at herself by overdramatizing the thoughts/feelings in her head. the trying to get other people's attention by exaggerating one's own problems or perceived problems.

also this sort of "wounded girl" mentality where one blames one's behavior on things from one's childhood, and other factors when, in fact, it may be something they can control, but just don't want to. because they want to be seen as helpless, and thus given attention.

Xiu Xiu – Suha Lyrics 19 years ago
my initial thoughts were: suha is the name of yassir arafat's widow.

"i hate the desert...i hate my husband." rather than live with her husband in ramallah, she was usually living in a cushy pad of hers in paris. and she was often criticized for distancing herself from her husband and the PLO cause which would give meaning to the "i hate my husband" part.

finally, "black hair got you down tonight." though her natural hair color is black, she has it dyed blonde.

this seems to make a lot of sense, but to be honest, i like drealoth's interpretation a lot better. some of the other lines would make a lot more sense that way, and i'd think it a lot more "jamie stewart" to be singing about a prostitute than yassir arafat's widow.

also, "hump a cop" is just totally baffling otherwise.
