Taylor, please stop writing the names of the guys the songs are about in the secret messages. An obscure clue or something is fine, but not something so obvious. If you wouldn't say it in an interview, don't put it as a secret message. Not gonna lie, I like the song a little bit less since Adam outed the fact that it was about him and made such a big thing of it. I always knew it was about him. But his reaction to it took away a lot of the mystique for me. |

I don't hear it. It sounds more like some Boys Like Girls songs. Which makes sense, since she co-wrote it with BLG lead singer Martin Johnson. And I'm pretty sure Taylor's song WAS written first. Because her and Martin were hanging out/writing songs together in like, 2006/2007. I'm pretty sure this was just an old song that she dug up because it fit something she was going through at the time she was working on Speak Now. Same thing happened with "The Way I Loved You" and Fearless. It was a last minute addition, but an old song. And I don't think ITWAM ever had a shot at making the actual album, since it's a co-write. It's a great song. But not worth no longer being able to say that she wrote every song on the album by herself. |

Surprised that more people haven't mentioned the John Mayer possibility. I absolutely think it was written for him. I thought that when she first performed the song. And finding out more details since then just makes me more sure. 1) The '32' thing. Kanye was 32 during the VMA's. But so was John in 2010, when whatever happened between him and Taylor happened, and when she performed the song at the VMA's. 2) The 'lunchbox' line is also a lyric from John's song '83'. 3) The "bigger bed to crawl into" line. John tweeted something similar last February: 'And that's what adulthood is: you wake from the nightmare and realize there's no bigger bed to climb into' 4) Taylor didn't write the song until spring '10. Which was LONG after the Kanye thing, but right after the thing with John Mayer. I don't know if she wrote it after DJ, forgiving him for whatever happened with them. Or maybe before that, when he was dealing with all the backlash from the Playboy interview. As an 'I still believe in you' type thing. (Personally, I think it's the latter). I think the song makes a lot more sense in that context. It sounds like a song for someone you know/care about. Even though it makes sense for Kanye in some ways too, hence why she decided to perform it at the VMA's. |

That doesn't mean much. The secret message for "Mine" is TOBY (the guy in her video) but the song has nothing to do with him. They didn't even meet until the video shoot for that song. Obviously she thought the song could apply to Kanye as well, but I don't think that's what/whom it was originally written for. |

| Justin confirmed at the Grammys what alot of us already thought. He said it's very personal to him because it's about what happened to his best friend, which happens to be Trace Ayala. It IS about Trace and Elisha Cuthbert. She left him for Sean Avery (hockey player, formerly of the LA Kings), who has a reputation for being a player. If you that story also, it fits much better with the song than the Justin/Britney story. Plus, Justin has now said himself that it's about Trace and Elisha. | |
