It's interesting to see how everyone can relate this song to a particular person or situation in their own life, it's so universal.
Personally, it reminds me of one of my friends and his experiences with girls. Plus he is a major Radiohead fan. I remember him telling me that the only difference to girls between a good looking guy and an ugly guy is the word "creepy". A good looking guy can stare at you through your window and still not be creepy whereas an uglier guy can't even be friendly towards girls without being called a creep or creepy. Anyway, I'm rambling... but that's what it means to me. |

ahhh I love ELO and LOVE this song. When I heard it in the prom scene of The Virgin Suicides I just thought "wow this is the perfect song for this!". It's mysterious and so beautiful GAH I just adore it. "walking meadows in my mind" - it's like she takes up all his thoughts, she's walking through them constantly... and magic is a great way to describe love... |

I think it's clever the way he says "lying with you", as in they are lying in the snow, but also that they are lying to the guy whose girlfriend is cheating on him. Anyway, very nice song, pretty damn obvious meaning. |

This is a cute song, a guy I like always calls me blossom so I'm especially fond of the lyrics. I agree with the interpretation of the cherry blossom being something fleeting but I think that the image was used because they are such sweet and beautiful flowers. I dunno, they are just small and delicate which I think is an adorable thing to compare a girl to. I know I like being compared to something so pretty :P |

Wow, I reeeally can identify with this song... there are just certain people in my friendship group or people that I know who are EXACTLY like this towards me. I can say something perfectly innocent and it will be taken out of context or exaggerated in a way that people think that I hate them or something... It just seems like no matter what I say, I'm going to offend someone.
The worst thing is that if I retaliate, people are all like "woah, relax we're you're friends so don't get mad at us". Sigh. "I don't know what to say", basically. |

First of all, awesome song. It kind of has another meaning for me, because I used to be in a long distance relationship and my boyfriend at the time once told me that he had a dream in which he fell in love with the ghost of a girl. His interpretation of the dream was that the ghost was like me, because we were both not physically there. So yeah, the song is kind of special to me in that sense...
Also, I always thought it was "The first MOMENT that I met her". Seems like it makes more sense too. |

I think it's about some girl who got dumped and her friend is protecting her or trying to make her feel better. I also think he's talking about her as if she is a ladybug/ladybird, "a little animal". You know how when you find a ladybug you're meant to tell it that it's house is on fire and it's children are burning so that it will fly away. Because if it flies away then you get good luck. That's what I think he's talking about in the lines "can anybody find their home", especially since he keeps repeating it. Just my thoughts. |

Can't believe no one has commented on this yet... it's such a good song! I guess this song is about a guy who is just socially awkward, so much so that he doesn't even want to accept a high five from anyone because he doesn't "know how to do it". It comes to the point where he doesn't even want to play on anyone's team because if they won, he might have to high five someone. |

I guess this is a lot different to what others have said but these are just my thoughts on the song. To me, it sounds as if the speaker has come to the realisation that if they try to live their life using cold reason and logic (cool blue reason), that darker sides of the world being to emerge. For example, they notice deaths on the news, become paranoid, and are pessimistic in general. The "only 8 more hours to go" in my opinion is referring to the speaker telling themselves as they lay in bed awake at night that there is only 8 more hours until another morning, when the whole process begins again. |

I think that while it is about pollution, it has other subtle meanings as well. Like the whole "I wish I was in that Mercedes-Benz
Sealed away from my sins" is saying that the richer people are the cause of all these problems (namely, pollution), but because of their money, they can choose to distance themselves from the destruction they have caused. |

Yeah, I have this one friend who reminds me exactly of this song. She stresses all the time about the most petty things, it makes me want to tell her to just chill out some of the time and enjoy life. Because in the end, if you are stressing, you're effectively letting your life pass you by. Then again, this is coming from one of the most chilled out people on the planet :P |

I have loved this song for such a long time and never knew why. I could never understand what the lyrics meant, so in a way the mystery is what attracted me to the song (besides the fact that I'm a massive Cake fan). These theories are very interesting and I'd also like to say that for me, the line "That sickly scent is always, always there" is the most beautiful. I dunno, it just gives me a feeling inside, it makes me very sad for some reason. |
