The Rentals – Friends of P. Lyrics 19 years ago
Regardless of what the chorus might have been written for originally (i.e. a crush who's name starts with P), in this song the P stands for Psychics. I like what jasop said about the Psychic Friends Network. That's clever. The rest of the song is make believe of what a Psychic might tell him. And it's futuristic, not historical. It has nothing to do with Weezer. And for those who think his fame and fortune was only from riding the Rivers Cuomo wagon, you're only partly right. Matt co-wrote many of the songs on the Blue Album and Pinkerton. And you don't notice it, but he sings a high pitched overtone in many of the Weezer songs, which brings in a harmony that compliments River's voice very well. Everyone in Weezer had side bands, or solo projects. His was just the most successful. Of course, teaming up with members of That Dog helped. Did I mention I'm a fan...

Mates of State – Everyone Needs an Editor Lyrics 19 years ago
The part "runaway forever, cut me some slack, it's my side of the mountain" has got to be a reference to the book and movie "My Side of the Mountain" where the boy runs away from home, and finds a better life living on his own in the wilderness.,

Death Cab for Cutie – 405 Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't want to dismiss all the ideas presented before, that refer to sexual implications by this song... but to me, this song is about a regretful youthful relationship , in which he gave his heart to a girl that led falsely to believe she was in love to. Just as she hid her bad habits.

"i took the 405 and drilled a stake down into your center, and stated that it's never ever been better than this." I went down this road and established myself in your heart.
"i hung my favorite shirt on the floorbaord, wrinkled up from pulling pushing tasting." I gave up who I was, and let you control who I am.

"you keep twisting the truth that keeps me thrown askew." I stayed believing your enterpretation of me and us.

"misguided by the 405 'cause it lead me to an alcoholic summer. i missed the exit to your parents' house hours ago." I've realized that you were a mistake for me, and I'm still on this road, but this time I'm not giving in to your manipulation.

"red wine and the cigarettes: hide your bad habits underneath the patio." You're hiding the real you and you're selfish.

That's my interpretation... kind of a mean song, about a "lessoned learned" experienced.... I love this song!
