| Mook – broken-bee (light me) Lyrics

i'll admit that the only reason i know about this band is because i looked up paul dano on wikipedia and saw the link to his band's website. i expected them to be kind of stupid (like 30 seconds to mars or something) but i loved this song. it's so pretty. i think of it like a guy who keeps messing up, and this girl is the one he counts on to help him and sort of keep him from himself. i don't know if that's what they meant by it, but anyway. it's a beautiful song, and i hope that mook makes more stuff in the future. |

i now love this song so much, just discovered it in my library. it's so pretty and simple and earnest, and i like the little details. he let's you just experience everything with him, and doesn't attempt to find deep philosophies or anything. now his wife has inspired what are in my opinion, his two best songs (the other is lizzy). I love Ben Kweller. |

i think they've just forgotten what they missed about home. they know there was something, so they're looking for things to remind them, but all they find are memories of their travels. |

this song is such a guilty pleasure, but it's so catchy. for some reason i love the last part at the end of each chorus where she's like saaay ok. it's so pretty. |

| Dexter Freebish – Leaving Town Lyrics

|
i think it's about a girl who thinks she needs to leave her home to become something better, but what she really needs to do is find herself, as many post-highschool people do. The singer is saying go ahead, go find out who you are and be part of that whole scene, when you've had enough and it's broken you, i'll still be here. I love this song, it's one of those guilty pleasure 90's rock songs, like Sister Hazel or Better Than Ezra haha |

this song is so funny. and like a lot of other people said, it's really cool when the crowd does the ba ba ba part in the live version. |

i'm pretty sure she's still dating the guy when she sees the letter, because why would a girl he was openly dating say 'meet me at midnight'? sounds like cheating to me. this is sad. i must say though, i wish it had music, because i hate her voice alone. it's weird and yodelly. kind of whiny too, not elegantly powerful or soft and sad. |

| The Velvet Underground – Stephanie Says Lyrics

|
hankpiece i pretty much agree with you, except for some reason i think Stephanie is like a PR agent or something like that. she let's people in to the glamorous but fake world of celebrity (ie she's the door) but she can't leave. People think she's cold, but she's just afraid to get close to something that could turn out to be a lie (maybe. the song doesn't go into that as much). In the end, she could leave it behind if she really wanted to, but a part of her is still dependent on the lifestyle (ie it's all in her mind). I don't know I feel like that's a little specific, but i got that idea from the answering phones part. |

Stipje I have those versions too! By the way, you are amazingly cool in my book for having them. I really like strings, it makes it more sad and dramatic. But the long version rules all. You can't beat the original. |

| John Mayer – Waiting on the World to Change Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
the message is pretty good, i know that feeling about wanting to do big things but feeling like you have no power..ah to be young.
but this just sounds so upbeat. it contradicts the lyrics slightly. it's just happy and chill. good driving music. although i don't know if that term does it justice..
anyway, brilliant song. john mayer seems like a really smart guy in his interviews, and not annoying and pretentious. i like that he doesn't want to tell people what to do. i think we have enough people doing that. |

| Nirvana – Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam Lyrics

|
this song is great. it's kind of like he's sad that he's not accepting god but also angry that he's guilty about it.
and by the way, i'm adding religion to the 'things you can't talk about on this site because it will turn everyone into ranting morons' list.
just let people say what they want to say. try it sometime, it's nice. |

| Motion City Soundtrack – Everything Is Alright Lyrics

"But I'm getting better at fighting the future"
hmm. reminds me of The Future Freaks Me Out (great song by the way)
I think he's paranoid and/or has ADD but he's realizing it's ok and he's sick of having to medicate himself just to be normal. He just wants to be himself. Cute.
this band is so damn catchy. love them. |

| Warren Zevon – Lawyers, Guns, And Money Lyrics

Lawyers, Guns, and Money. They'll get me out of this.
Haha, isn't that how everyone feels these days? You can get away with murder as long as long as you've got a good lawyer. Warren is so sardonic and hilarious. I love him, it's too bad he didn't get more credit for being a ballsier Bruce Springsteen. |

I can't believe no one's said anything about this yet. This song is sad. Although I don't think it was written shortly before Warren died, it sounds like it could've been. It's kind of funny in a twisted way. I guess it's like he can't be cured and he's stuck with whatever this horrible thing. Sad. |

| Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics
| 19 years ago

i think that he's so desensitized he's passed depression, he doesn't even care enough to feel that. i think the whenever i breathe out/you breathe in is like saying they're complete opposites and whenever he's exhaling and not doing anything, while everyone else is 'taking it all in' and living. he's like not even in the world with everyone else. it's horrible to feel like that.
this song is amazing. sweeping..if that's a great way to describe a song ; ) |

or the song could be about how he's living cut off from the world but now he can't help the world leaking into his life. he's hurting people around them as if they don't have feelings by being so distant and cold, and there's something in the way of him having a healthy relationship with anyone. |

haha vesna, maybe, but i doubt it.
i think on the surface he IS talking about living under a bridge, i just don't think that he ever actually DID live under a bridge. i read the biography too, and he comes off as an exaggerative storyteller.
i think it's about depression as well, but i can't really get specific analogies from each line, just a general sense of depression.
brilliant song, and i liked it in Jarhead too. |

| Guster – Ramona Lyrics
|
The verses suck, but the chorus is completely worth it.
Ramona is one of those people who draws you but is bad for you. Like a human crack or something. He does whatever she wants but then she leaves him and punches him. He tries to get her back even after all that, but he doesn't. When they would fight, he would sing to her or play music and everything would be better. Hence, the refrain brightening their corner of Hickory Lane. |

I feel bad not contributing anything to the lyrics, but I think they're pretty self explanatory.
I'd love to be walking in the rain and pass some guy I didn't know and then all of a sudden make out against a tree to this song. Ok maybe I shared to much. This is what Mark Tom and Travis do to me though... |

| Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing) Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
I think he sleeps with a friend who he's loved for a while. He does it because he loves her, she does it because she's caught in the moment. She decides he's not mature enough for her and he gets embarassed and is a "ghost" because the woman saw through him and saw his vulnerability. He doesn't want anyone to have a chance to do that again, so he starts just sleeping around and dumping the girls before they can really get to know him, and he doesn't feel bad because it happened to him too. He does feel empty because he doesn't have real relationships though. But he remember that first woman and to try and forget about her he "traps" her in a song so he can not necessarily get closure, but at least put the thought of her somewhere else.
I love this song. I love how he's pretty emotional about it but the melody is upbeat not sad, as if he's making fun of himself. |
