| New Young Pony Club – The Bomb Lyrics | 18 years ago |

When we saw NYPC recently, the lead singer said that this song was about Einstein and his involvement with the development of the atomic bomb, hence lyrics such as: "don't speak cause your mind is amazing" "atomic infamy" etc. But equally I think, like with all good songs, it does have that alternative meaning that allows it to function as a superb pop song. |

| Elvis Costello – Oliver's Army Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'm not sure if it is specifically about Britain. Particularly the second verse, that is all about the Berlin Wall. "Checkpoint Charlie" is the famous crossing between East and West Berlin and the "murder mile" I believe is a reference to the "death strip" that the Soviets erected around the Berlin wall which was a clear stretch of land which gave Soviet border guards a clear shot of potential escapees. I think the song is just about the worldwide political situation of the time. | |

This song is totally immense. One correction, where you've put: "When I was a young boy, I bought a stereo We sang to all the words right out the radio" It should read: "When I was a young boy, I bought a stereo We taped all the songs straight off the radio" |

That's very very true you know. Some lyrics that back that up: "Just leave them alone," "stealing a youth." "a sick desire, " And of course this other ones suggested above. Plus there's the fact that the chorus is about Girls as well as Boys in the back. Good theory. |

| A Flock of Seagulls – Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

There's so much feeling in this song, it truly is an epic. Beautiful lyrics, stunning synth tune and a soft melodramatic singer. One of my favourite songs of all time, no question. That post by pharmageek is also much more meaningful if read whilst listening to this song! In fact, pretty much anything probably is! It's a powerful song. |

| Forward, Russia! – Twelve Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yeah it is about the creation of the atomic bomb, it was my first impression of the song and it makes sense. Lines such as "clothes draped on SILOS" (missile silos) and "But he couldn't find another way" (another way to end WW2). It all points towards it. | |
| White Rose Movement – Girls in the back Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| At the risk of sounding perverse I would suggest it was about anal sex. Line such as "Girls in the back, a sick desire!" and "I wanna get straight, I wanna put you through" certainly have sexual connotations. And many of their other songs have strong sexual meanings too. Just a thought. | |
