Ya, completely self-explanatory...love it though. Reminds me so much of a past bf...lol, his lil bro did even look like him! It actually helped me cry those last tears and get over him. I had so many feelings inside, yet I didn't know what words to put to them. This song put them in perfect English. So ya, thats what the song meant to me...Ri rocks. |

This is probably so different to what anyone else thinks, but I saw the song totally backwards (probably because it happened to me with my guy). I thought that it implied that the GUY kissed another girl, and his girlfriend caught him. He keeps saying to himself "it was only a kiss, it was only a kiss". How could something so small end a relationship and "end up like this"? After she caught him cheating, she moved on to someone new, and now he's jealous. "Because I want it all" (wants more than just his gf) and "But it’s just the price I pay" also shows that he knows he made a mistake and wants her back. Don't blow my head off, lol. I realise that The Killers probably did intend it to be the other way around as everyone else mentioned, but this is what the song means to ME. Everytime I listen to this song, I dunno whether to be happy or sad. It's really beautifully written. Luv it |

I saw this as a relationship on the rocks. The girl has been cheating on the guy and he is going through the usual mixed-emotions "We're falling apart to half time" shows he knows they're falling out, but he is almost reminding her with the "dance, dance" bit to remember all the good times they had together. Made me realise that even if something is over, you should still be grateful for all the good times you shared with that person. =) |

This song never really meant anything to me until I broke up with my first boyfriend. I listened to it a few days afterwards and all the pain just seemed to emerge. "Cause sooner or later it's over, I just don't want to miss you tonight" is really beautiful, because in a young relationship you know that it is kind of doomed to end from the start, but you just don't want to miss that person because it hurts so much. "When everything's made to be broken" also implies the how-every-beginning-has-an-ending thing. The third verse probably got me the most. "And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming" sometimes happens to people (like me) when they go through shocking break-ups. They just can't cry, the emotion runs too deep for even tears to express. The rest of the verse was also really moving. "And I don't want the world to see me" in the chorus implies that your hurt and sadness can't be understood by anyone else, your friends, your parents. And their comfort really isn't going to fix it, coz they don't really understand. And in the end they are soon going to assume you're over your loss when you probably aren't. So ya, those were just some views on aspects of the song. I can see this song still being loved by many people for many many more years. |

Ya, I dunno how this could about a baby speaking through the song, though the abortion theory makes sense. When I first heard this song, I saw it differently though. I had just been getting through a rough breakup and when I heard that one sentence "You're beautiful!" I went back into mourning, coz I could just imagine my ex saying that. Anyway, I saw it as a girl-leaving-a-guy situation and he is really pissed and is all "Well just go on and live your life with that new guy," but he still misses her more than ever. Anyway, that's just how I saw it at first. But yes, I agree with the abortion theory. MCR rocks! |
