I see it as expressing music to never give up you, even when the rest of the world does. Like, rock n roll will always except me and be there for me, even when the fruitless peices of society fade away. |

I would go even further than that, Seraph. It seems here the persons saying even though they don't think the same way as most other people do in society (They question their faith but still have a strong connection to God outside the boundries of religious structure) and believe theyre seen the truth inside lies created by the church "Circles inside the square", they still doubt if they'll find God. I think to me, this is a song about fearing you've taken the right path towards God or not. This happens when you doubt religious structures, I should know, this is what I go through. But I think the main thing Crosbys saying here, is no matter which form your faith takes, you must always find the right door yourself - be it in questioning what you believe, and in practising what you actually preach. Uhmm yeah... but thats only what I think :) |

I was just thinking, in the context of this song, it might even also be taken as the feelings one goes through when they doubt their own faith. That being said I think I've seen just about *every* vast song explained as about God somehow lol. It'd be nice to hear Crosby sit through each song and explain them to us :P |

To me, the meaning of this song seems clear. It's about those who pronounce their beliefs and faith, yet that's as far as they go. They close their eyes and ignore the pain and suffering in the world, and believe that their faith alone will get them into heaven, even if they only live for themself. This is basically a plee for christians to understand that believing in God also means doing his *will* and helping others. Far too many people just go to church and die. And it's sad, it really is. |
