"In religion and sociology, a cult is a cohesive group of people (often a relatively small and recently founded religious movement) devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture or society considers to be far outside the mainstream" from the wikipedia page on "cult" Christianity is one of the world's largest religions, therefore, it is not a cult. lol five months later but its allright |

| KT Tunstall – Stoppin' The Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |

My favorite line is: You got me looking up, Even when I'm falling down. I wish the song was about hope and inspiration...because this line is a great start. I interpret it as saying: "Even though everything has gone to hell, you still manage to help me look up and give me hope" I might have to steal this line for a song *wink* |

Well seeing as TFK is a Christian band...I would suggest that this song is about God. It's time to rest not to sleep away My thoughts alone try to complicate I'll do my best to seek you out, to be myself, and not to impersonate Possibly could be talking about how hard it is to be a Christian sometimes with all the temptations of the world (sex, drugs, violence). "My thoughts alone complicate." His own thoughts are confusing him...he's looking for direction. "to be myself, and not to impersonate." he just wants to be himself, to be true to God and not become a fake, insincere, impersonation of himself. I'm going in so cover me Your compass will help me turn the page The laughing stock I'll never be 'cause I won't let them take me He's decided to dedicate himself to God and is asking for the strength to accomplish this "cleansing" of the filth of the world. He won't "let them take me" is him deciding to be resilent againts peer pressure and influence. I took a walk to see all the love that's around me Through the highs and lows there's a truth that I know and it's you Yeah The truth is God, who is there through the high and lows, the ups and downs. So that's MY over-interpertation of the song [: just thought someone ought to be a christian spin on this one |

I agree, this isn't political...just really. The lyrics are too trite for me, but I definetly how some bands can say the simplest thing and still have inspire people. Thats me with MxPx, cause some people would think there lyrics were lame and simple. Nice guitar solo though, especially the beginning! |

| Switchfoot – Something More (augustine's Confession) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Well this song kicks...althought I think hiddendragons thoughts on Saint Augustine is probably the true meaning and inspiration for the song, I thought of it in a different when I heard it. To me, it was describing the moment Augustine realized the world wasn't perfect, of the injustices in the world, and how he had been enclosed in a tomb of ignorance, keeping his eyes closed to the real world. When he wakes up, and realized what the world truly is, his philosophies and beliefs are thrown into turmoil. Now I know it seems like I am overanalyzing this, but the basic message is: We all realize the world isn't fair at some point, and this is describing Augustine relization. I could explain how the rest of the song fits that theory....but I would probably get flamed for being to complex. w/e. Just my thoughts. neverlearn |
