Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics 19 years ago
besides dude, look at the definition you posted...

FLIPPANT is an ADJECTIVE.

Adjectives aren't nouns and, therefore, don't pluralize.

The only noun form of flippant is flippancy, i.e., the state of being flippant.

You should really apply a little grammatical reasoning before you post such idiocy.

Holler, bitch.

It's not FLIPPANT, foreskin. It is most definitely FIBBERS.

Proper and complete lyrics below...
_______________________________________________________

Listen to the tales and romanticize
how we'd follow the path of the hero.
Boast about the day when the rivers overrun
how we'd rise to the height of our halo.

Listen to the tales as we all rationalize
our way into the arms of the savior.
Feigning all the trials and the tribulations,
none of us have actually been there...
Not like you.

Ignorant fibbers in the congregation
gather around spewing sympathy.
Spare me.
None of them can even hold a candle up to you,
Blinded by choices hypocrites won't see.

But enough about the collective Judas.
Who could deny you were the one who illuminated?
You'll have a piece of the divine.

This little light of mine,
the gift you passed onto me.
I'll let it shine
to guide you safely on your way...
Your way home.

What are they gonna do when the lights go down,
Without you to guide them all to Zion?
What are they gonna do when the rivers overrun,
other than tremble incessantly?

High is the way but our eyes are upon the ground
You were the light and the way they'll only read about.
I only pray Heaven knows when to lift you out.
Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough...
You're going home.

You're the only one who can hold your head up high,
shake your fist at the gates saying,
I have come home now!

Fetch me the spirit,
the son and the father.
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.

It's time now, my time now!
Give me my, give me my wings!

Give me my (x 5),
Give me my wings.

You are a light, a way
that they will only read about.

Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance,
burden of proof tossed upon non-believers.
You were my witness,
my eyes, my evidence...
Judith Marie, unconditional one.

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence.
Difficult to see you in this light.
Please forgive this bold suggestion.
Should you see your maker's face tonight,
look him in the eye,
look him in the eye and tell him,
I never lived a lie, never took a life,
but surely saved one.

Hallelujah.
It's time for you to bring me home.

Well, fuck.

I'm as intolerant of my own bullshit typos as I am of anyone else's I guess...

Couple of minor changes, additions to achieve a full manifestation of completeness.

Saw the gap again today
While you were beggin’ me to stay.
Take care not to make me enter.
If I do we both may disappear.

Know that I will choke until I swallow.
Choke this infant here before me.
What is this but my reflection?
Who am I to judge or strike you down?

But you're
Pushin’, shovin’ me (x 4)
Pushin’ and shovin’ me (x3)
Pushin’ me, shovin’ me.
You still love me, still love me, shouldn't be pushin' on me.
still love me, still love me, shouldn't be pushin' on me.

Rest your trigger on my finger.
Bang my head upon the fault line.
You better take care not to make me enter
'cause if I do we both may disappear.

But you're
Pushin’, shovin’ me (x 2)
Pushin’ and shovin’ me.
Pushin’ me, shovin’ me.
You still love me, still love me, shouldn't be pushin' on me.
You’re pushin’ and shovin’ me.
Pushin’ and shovin’ me.

I’m slippin’ back into the gap again.
I'm alive when you're touchin’ me.
Alive when you're shovin’ me down… heyee.

But I'd trade it all
for just a little
peace of mind.

Pushit on me (x 4)
You’re pushin’
‘n shovin’
scramblin’
Keep my feet flat on the ground.

I am somewhere I don’t wanna be, yeah.
Push me somewhere I don't wanna be.
Put me somewhere I don’t wanna be.
Seeing some place I don't wanna see.
Never wanna see that place again.

Saw the gap again today
While you were beggin’ me to stay.
Managed to push myself away
and you as well, my dear.

And if, when I say I might fade like a sigh if I stay
You minimize my movement anyway.
Oh, I must persuade you another way.

Pushin’ shovin’
Pushin’ shovin’
Pushin’ me.

There's no love in fear.

Yeah, I’m starin’ down the hole again.
Hands are on my back again.
Survival is my only friend.
Terrified of what may come, yeah.

Remember I will always love you
as I claw your fuckin’ throat away.
It will end no other way (x 2)

While the 3rd grade spelling and grammar level of certain of this forum's posters is unsurprising in the modern gangsta rap, South Park, 30-second-MTV-attention-span era, it is simply EGREGIOUS (look it up) that typos like "piece of mind" continue to pervade this and all other TOOL lyrics boards, degrading the meaning of this awe-inspiring and majestic song...

Therefore,

Toward a fuller and more accurate treatment of Pushit, I offer the following... the most complete and precise transcription of the lyrics found on the entirety of the motherfucking World Wide Web.

Enjoy and listen closely, bitches.

Ok, after about a million more listens... I have to recant...

Once again, I agree with Blackinator...

He definitely says "...my Center, just trying to hold on" not "...I said I'm just trying to hold on"

My bad, dawwwwwrg.

This song is garbage. It's obviously not an APC song after even a single half-listen. This is some wannabe rock band playing 2 guitar chords and kindergarten 4/4 drums. It's worse than fucking HOUSE music. Complete sheit.

Get this shit off the board.

3 Major corrections to this one...

1.
(The devil with his had me down)
In love with the dark side I'd found.
DABBLING all the way down (Not: Dabble in)
Up to my neck soon to drown.

Come on, this is pretty obvious. He discovered the dark side and was enamored with it, thus beginning a downward spiral into darkness and evil, dabbling in the occult, spiritual alchemy, sexual experimentation, etc... on the descent.

2.
Prayed like a MARTYR dusk to dawn (plainly Not: Father. Listen again.)
Beg like a hooker all night long
Tempted the devil with my song
And got what I wanted all along

During Ramadan, Muslims forgo food, drink and sex, and pray unceasingly from sunrise to sunset or vice versa (so it rhymes). Some of these people, in today's violent world frequently martyr themselves by detonating explosives strapped to their bodies or driving a vehicle heavily laden with explosives into groups of school children. They're called terrorists. Maybe you've heard of them?

3.
Dim my eyes if they should compromise
Or fall from what sin need you, IF I LEAVE IT
(Not: find within)
I might as well be gone

These's a passage in the Bible that says something like "If your eye causes you to fall into sin, pluck it out for it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire."

The idea is that we get caught up in our sensory experiences of the world and neglect our spiritual, intutitive natures. MJK has developed his spirituality and recognizes the great benefit he has received in doing so. So great in fact that he would rather be without THE major human physical sense (sight), if it leads him astray, than to fall back into the "old" sensory, physical, primitive ways of living (and dabbling in the occult).

Dimming the sight (as happens naturally in old age) is one kind of "blinding" accomplished in the referenced Bible verse by actually "plucking" the offending eye out. The thrust is that if you can't see the distracting physicality of the world, you have fewer obstacles to spiritual development.

... and as crazy as it sounds, people actually do it:

Ok, that's all. I've listened to these over and again. Have a listen with my corrections and judge for youself.

As a follow up, please see Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" which explains the process of coming to knowledge/enlightenment from the dark cave of human ignorance.

The reason Plato is important is because he was Socrates' pupil and Socrates himself never wrote anything down. He was an oral teacher. So all we know about Socrates or his teachings is from Plato's own philosophical works.

It pains me to see the most important and poignant line of this song mis-transcribed... So here's the correction without jumping through the "formal" correction process hoops:

"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability

TO LIFT AN EYE TO HEAVEN,
(NOT: To live tonight in heaven)

Conscious of his fleeting time here."

This line is, at its core, a lyrical restatement of Socrates' assertion that, "The unexamined life is not worth living." Meaning that one who goes through life without ever asking the important questions is living a worthless existence.

One of the natural inclinations of human beings since we have been human beings is to ask the BIG questions... Why am I here? What is the Purpose of Life? etc...

These questions lead us to contemplating the nature of the being/intelligence some call God, the universe and our place in it. Naturally, when contemplating the universe we look to the sky and the heavens as the starting point of the journey (think early astronomers, Ptolemy, Copernicus, Galileo, etc...).

They were exploring sky and space not for the sake of the task itself, and not even for the sake of "science," (although modern science was born out of their early efforts) but as a way of trying to understand the characteristics and laws governing the physical world, time and space... existence itself, very specifically their own existence, but also that of all other people as well.

Our existences are like fire. We spark into existence and burn for a short time then extinguish. There is, cosmically speaking, a very miniscule amount of time involved in the span of even the longest-lived human being's lifetime. And yet, we squander it.

Knowing our inherent mortality, we should be able to understand the fleeting nature of our own lifetime.

To understand our imminent mortality and yet practice willful ignorance as to our origin, destination and purpose; to not even begin the long and arduous journey toward understanding and enlightnment (a path on which MJK and likely the rest of TOOL have well advanced) is to live in a primitive and lowly state of existence, like uncivilized and blissfully ignorant "talking monkeys."

Repugnant indeed.

I'm also of the mind to think that the last line in the "Fight over..." section (currently blank with an asterisk) says, "Fight over lies and ME." I think the fighting over me part directly references this and other lyrics websites where 'We the Users' gather to collectively discuss, debate, refute, belittle, flame, foment, badger, fight, piss, bitch, and moan to each other over our interpretations of TOOL's music.
