^wow, couldn't have said it better TALKINGFLOWER. I totally got a lyrical NIN "Closer" feel in the lyrical sense of this song. The lyrics are like a much more clean and sophisticated version of the blunt and vulgar (in the best way possible of course) of the amazing "Closer". And how badass would that be to have Trent and Paul work together? I believe Interpol did a remix for Trent for one of his songs as well. Hmm, a collab would be interesting! By the way guys, Our Love To Admire is AMAZING. Much better than Antics. |

god, you guys are weak. are you that easily disgusted by the last minute of this song? how the fuck do you live then, cause there's some sicker shit out int he world, jesus christ. and dont say how different this song is from the other deftones songs because this song and 'lucky you' from the self titled cd are similar. and btw, chino can put whatever song he wants on his album, because he's part of the band. I think the song is ok, but you people are taking it WAAAAAAY out of the context. |

this song is about elliott smith (for those who dont know who he is, he was an indie singer sonwriter who passed away in 2003) Beck and him were good friends and this a tribute to him, it's a beautiful song. this song screams elliott and it diligently explains him in the simplest ways, it's obvious it's about him. |

I love the part of the songs where he sings "but no one deserves this" and the piano comes in oh god i can't even explain the feeling i get when that happens its just amazing i fuckin worship elliott smith ---- I know what you exactly what you mean, good god he just had a knack for knowing what blends with what. that part practically made me tear up the first time i heard it. |

| I very much agree with you mcfluder, when I heard this song after a while when I really started listening to the lyrics I couldn't help but think this is about Chiba. Sure he writes songs about relationships and love, etc etc, but this one for some reason really strikes me as if he's talking about Jennifer. It was obvious that they did not have the perfect relationship so it's substantial that it could be about her. | |

why the hell is everyone sticking up for that hag Jennifer Chiba? Does anyone realize that she actually sued the Smith family a year after his death asking for money cause she felt they were serious partners. All we know is that two people were in that room and one of them died. I'm not saying she did it, but her asking for money from his family adds fuel to the fire, and not to mention is extremely disrespectful, she sure has a lot of nerves to do that. But anyways, this is one of his best songs. I agree that it's not a suicide note to his 03 death but a plead, it doesnt mean his 'suicide' was premeditated. |

yeah, what happened is elliott died before they released this album so they gave all the tracks ever to be recorded for this CD and gave it to the family so they can choose which song goes ont he CD etc etc. The family actually took out a lot of elliotts most meaningful songs, particaulary the songs he talks about his all out 01-02 drug binge, how he overcame rehab by 03 etc etc, this song was recorded by a friend, it wasn't even elliotts. a lot of people say this CD, 'a basement on a hill' would've been completely different and better had elliott still been in charge of it. |

wonderful interpertation fearnotofman, i was thinking the same thing, but the 'sockets not a shock enough' i was confused with but your example is really good. the part where he says, "he's pleased to meet you underneath the dead horse, in the cathederal with the glass stained black" is obviously him meeting his dealer at their place, in somewhere dark almost like an alley (glass painted black). he's probably saying cathederal a holy term as a replacement of something else so he can think he's not doing something wrong. "to destroy their master" the dealer is destroying his 'master', his customer with speed "it's just a brief smile crossing your face running speed trials still standing in place" his 'speed trials' are when he binges on speed and he smiles becuase of the satisfaction "you little child what makes you think you're tough when all the people you think you're above they all know what's the matter" he's asking himself why he thinks he's so above everyone and, the 'they all know whats the matter' is is literal, everyone knows he's an addict yet they don't say anything "you're such a pinball yeah you know it's true there's always something you come back running to to follow the path of no resistance" he's self loathing and he knows it, and he also knows by the end of the day he'll always run back to the poeple he knows, like a cycle, the 'path of no resistance'. all elliott fans, me included know there was a period in his life where he went completely down hill with his habits, it makes sense why he'd write this. |
