I like how amanda talks about splitting countries to be very carreful to avoid each other, very clearly, in a way this reminds me of the american civil war, i.e missouri compromise, where they divided the slave and free states with a very clear line. The way she references to the war on terror, "i am the tower around which you orbited, i am not proud i am just taking orders" The references to World War Two with the division of Germany. The reference to America's war of independence(concord to lexington) I just love how she refers to the relationship as war, how the end of it tears her to shreds, so much they have to tear the world to shreads to, as even though its only a relationship between two people, it feels like it has an effect upon the world. I also think shes definitly singing from the victims perspective. I guess its how you intepret the song though. |

This song is jsut about the raw emotion, humilation, loss and the raw feeling you get when someone walks away from you, and the resiliance it takes to get over whats happend, the anger. This song is so powerful. I have to say, first of all, this song got me through on of the hardest times of my life. This to me isnt a song of suicide. Its about the part in your life when the excitements long gone, and things are hard, and theres bills to pay. This to me is about a man and his wife, Shes drinking to put some excitement back into her life, shes become apathetic towards life. And he works at the relationship, because theres always that time in life when you have to grow up and realise that relationships take work. "They build buildings so tall these days" is a line that helps him hold on to what he's doing, that gives him faith that this will pass and buildings become bigger. Its also a line of comfort he gives to her. That things change all the time. and time isnt anything you can ever hold on too. So if she woke up, and saw how big the buildings are, she'd appreciate what it truely is. i suppose thats rambling, but this song breaks my heart, her voice is so powerful and the notes so resounding. Its almost as if you can hear her heart breaking through the sounds. |

I love this song, i love her voice, and how she plays. I love the surrelness of this song. I love how it tells strange storys alot like fairytales, then hits back with something from the realworld. Honestly i just think its a song about a girl suffering from detachment from the real world. |

This song is just beautiful. Its pure poetry, i agree, its just walking away, its so easy to do, theres so many metaphors, so many meanings in this, yet, i think theres one line, where he gets to the meaning "And it all boils down to one quotable phrase "If you love something, give it away" But, sometimes, this just comes on, catches me offguard, and i still cry. its the emotion and sincerity in his voice, it could catch anyone off guard. |

This song reminds me of christmas as a child. It makes me think of a family, more over just the one member, as they grow up, and how the view of their family changes. Its a beautiful song written by a beautiful artist. |

This song to me is just about being love. You know, when you first fall in love, and you dont entirly realise that you have, when your lover has to leave, and they walk through the door, and nothing else maters. all you can think aobut is them walking away. The first few weeks, where love is like an illness. For me this song describes that moment. And her own little piece of advice, the thing you have to keep on reminding yourself "Don't say goodbye like you're burying him Cause the world is round and he might return" that. just that, this song helped me =D |

I agree that its about a bitter seperation, but the feeling that the singer does not want to seperete, like some kind of determination. "We are not evacuatin' this 'ouse, we dont believe in you and your wreking crew" I believe the house is a metaphor, and the wrecking crew to be a metaphor for the devices(such as an affair) used by the other person in the relationship to destroy it. its just like the singers saying "You cant destroy my love, because deeply, deep down, i know you dont want this". The "we dont believe in you" makes me think that maybe this is a divorce, a family belief? maybe. . . |
