| System of a Down – Sad Statue Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the only thing i don't entirely like about this song is the chorus, the whole 'generation that didn't agree' line. as much as i love SOAD, this really hit a nerve with me as soon as i heard it. what i'm getting at is this - can anyone tell me the last generation that supposedly DID agree? that's human nature isn't it? i just get the impression that it's being suggested that we're alone here in the present facing war and conflict on a day to day basis. history shows us a completely different picture... | |

| nice reference to daniel quinn, pheurton. i listened to modern man just the other day for the first time after reading ishmael and immediately made the connection. there are some amazing parallels between these lyrics and the book... | |

i just wish the word 'punk' had never come into being in regard to describing music. rebellious or defiant rock (i can't think of a better term at the moment) would have done so much better. i see the lyrics as being 'the decline' of american society in general. maybe a direct stab republicanism. i actually see a direct link between mike's lyrics here and the views of michael moore - whom i remember mike quoted quite a lot on the fat wreck chords web site a lot around the writing of this ep. |

my god, i think i'm entering a war zone and i'm not talking about the lyrics here. i'm still not convinced personally that this song is written about the armenian genocide, that was a hell of a long time ago (1917). yes, of course i realise for many this can mean only two generations back, but from my experience with the rest of SOAD's lyrics, they do seem to stick with issues more current. i'm more inclined to associate this with the current iraq war. i reckon the most telling aspect regarding the genocide during WWI is that most of the killing was done within what i guess you'd call concentration camps, going against lyrics like 'he's gone so far to find the truth', suggesting a young man going off to war. SOAD have been brought up in the american culture - i'd be far more inclined to think they would have stronger feelings about the US presence in iraq at present... Any takers on that? |

| mmm... i've got to say i wouldn't have thought of abortion when listening to this, but, after reading through it all, i guess it's feasible. i do find SOAD's lyrics to be quite obscure on the whole, in that there can seem to be multiple meanings - almost to a fault (i did say 'almost') - but it certainly doesn't detract from the fact that they rock! | |
