I recently found out about this song and I think it's one of their best. I'm not sure who wrote it either The Walkmen or Calla. Whoever wrote that is just GENIUS.
It's fairly simple to understand what this song is about. I think it's about a guy who likes a girl and he's pretty sure she likes him back but she doesn't know that he knows. So he hides it and avoids her, expecting her to come to him; basically playing hard to get. The only problem he's facing is that she's not really going after him like he expected her to. So he waits while SHE plays the same game.

This song was inspired by a technique called "How To Disappear Completely" that Michael Stipe had taught Thom when they were touring back in '98(i presume) when they were touring with REM. Apparently, Thom and the rest of the boys of radiohead were going through some internal band problems and they would sorta drive Thom a little crazy. So Michael told Thom to say to himself "I'm not here, I'm not here, This isn't Happening"... Just a little something something I read online :)... I sometimes use that technique when something's driving me crazy. |

Honestly to tell you the truth, to me this song is about a guy seeing a hooker down the street, he takes her in the car, they do the "do" if u will, and then he kills her by drowning her in the ocean. The typical view of murder in prostitution. |

its quite clear that this song is about alot of problems in today's society. Fears, trends, problems. A perfect example "One little leak becomes a lake Says the tiny voice in my earpiece So I give in to the rhythm The click click clack" its clearly about music and leaks and how ppl get it from the bands and artists they love. The begining is not about global warming, but it was a good guess, to me its about how technology can be flithy. But i think the rest can be about global warming. Or maybe the apocalypse. Maybe how it all comes to happening. but thats just me of course. |
