No metaphors at all. This is him writing a song literally about the girl waitress. And let me say, he is on point. I work at a bar as a waiter and then I cocktail drinks until 2 am. The people that come out say some really fucked up shit to the waiters. There ARE people in the world who do NOT know how to act in a restaurant or just don't know what goes on as an employee of a high-volume restaurant/bar. Oprah telling people to go out but "tip 10%" to save money in this economic hard-time doesn't help either. Oh and the girls? Yea, they want to make an extra dollar or two so maybe that go down a button or two on their shirts. It's all so they can get more tabs and more money and are willing to flirt a little to do it. Yet, some men don't quite realize that, and I'm pretty sure that's related to some girls actually putting out with some guys. Trust me, I've seen it. BUT, that is a select few who set a standard for a majority. They just have to "keep their lip stiff" and kind of go with it/shrug it off because it's the weekend shift! This all just seems like a sad page ripen out of an waiter/waitress' life. He just took my lemons and painted that shit gold with this track. |

it's about a family members drug addiction. "burn bright white line fever take them all" - talks about the upsurging of cocaine among the youth today. apparently it's the new trendy thing to do around Charlotte. "you fail me with your new dead end dream" - possibly about said person saying they are going to quit their addictions, after they had already said they would. Converge mentioned in an interview that the lead vocalists family had a problem with addiction. "you fail me with your pill box fantasy" - Said person takes pills to get by everyday and to feel "normal" in reality. "you fail me as love's greatest war" - loves greatest war may possibly be having a family member with a drug addiction and trying to help them see the right path. it's not like they can just walk away from his family. "you think you are tragic but i know you are lost" - said person likes to believe they came up in a really bad house with a lot of problems (or some other excuse, blaming it on something else for his problems, when it's actually this persons fault) but person Y knows this is not the reason they started doing drugs and just well, thinks they are just lost. "this world doesn't fight you, you fight yourself" - said person believes that everyone is against him when in all reality, they are trying to help. |

| yea favorite song on the album. 3:20 into the song is amazing. reminds me of a total throwback to their old stuff. i really enjoy this album! it sounds like a career that someone got promoted in and he truely deserved it but missed the "boat" on the rest of his life. but i think it runs deeper then that, maybe someone else can elaborate on it! :) | |
