The White Stripes – Effect and Cause Lyrics 18 years ago
"Just throwing it out there, but I don't think this song is so straight forward. I think Jack is also referring to the Iraqi war. The rest of the album contains many references and I think this song does as well."

I doubt this is true. Jack generally sticks to singing about relationships and shies away from politics. There are a two exceptions to this that I know of: the verse in Icky Thump about immigration and The Big Three Killed My Baby off of their self-titled album, which was an old protest song from the 30's or 40's I believe.

I other words, it would have to be pretty damn directly stated for me to believe this is about the Iraq War.

"You keep blaming me for what you did
and that aint all"

It seems here like this is more on a personal level- between two people.

Brave Saint Saturn – Two-Twenty-Nine Lyrics 19 years ago
The poem being read in the background is "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas. It fits rather well, given that Thomas is writing about the death of his father. and that is Thomas's actual reading of the poem.
