| Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| For God's sake, people. It's "creating a radio PLAY". There used to be such things. And radios aren't "played", besides. Farken! I can't believe a dude wrote a giant analysis based on a misunderstanding of the lyrics; it's as if someone did an analysis of Hendrix based on "'scuse me while I kiss this guy". Fuck. | |
| Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks – Pencil Rot Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Not to mention "elucidate" rather than "halucinate" [sic]. | |
| Augie March – One Crowded Hour Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| ajb2835: you're almost right. In fact, it's Jeff Buckley who sounds like Glenn Richards dead. | |

| Augie March – The Keepa Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Augie March – Little Wonder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I don't see exactly what's so fucking uplifting about a song which advises one to 'get yourself a gun, open up your heart, let the bleeders run'. It's practically Judas fucking Priest. | |
| Squirrel Nut Zippers – Ment To Be Lyrics | 19 years ago |

| You Am I – ...And Vandalism Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"So now it's three gigs a night While your girl digs up the UAE" A classic metaphor for a hard-workin' muso whose girlfriend doesn't come to his shows but is out spending all his money. |

| Belle & Sebastian – Get Me Away from Here, I'm Dying Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Most songs about being a musician and in a band are complete tripe, but this is one of the most fantastic B&S songs. The final lines are stunning. |

| Violent Femmes – Color Me Once Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Was recorded during the 'why do birds sing?' sessions, but Gordon Gano refused to put it on the album. The rest of that album was very acoustic whereas this has some moody synth in it, so probably a good call. Great track for the Crow movie. Fantastic song. |

| Louise Attaque – Depuis Toujours Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
J'aime beaucoup Louise Attaque, mais je new parle pas Francais! Here is a machine translation. I'm sure it's very lovely in French. The days are not eternal A star said to the sun The turn of the world that I can make Since always, always The moon said to the ground Whose colors are of these wonders Exits of yesterday or the sun Exits of always, always In the black or under the light They mix under the sea They mix since always, always Say you think That it is necessary to stop there Say you believe That all that it is immense Say what you see Is the tendency followed The nights are not eternal The moon said to the sun They turn in round it is a mystery Since always, always A man of the universe said The length is a wonder Exits of yesterday and the sun Exits of always, always In the black or under the light It is prolonged under the sea It is prolonged Since always, always Say you think That it is necessary to stop there Say you believe That all that it is immense Say what you see Is it two to us tendency The days are not eternal A star said to the sun The turn of the world that I can make Since always, always The moon said to the ground Whose colors are of these wonders Exits of yesterday or the sun Exits of always, always Say you think That it is necessary to stop there Say you believe That us two it is tendency Say what you see Is it two immense for us |

| Andrew Bird – Fake Palindromes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I recall similar charges were laid at William Blake on publishing Songs of Experience. The technologists of the time were quite outraged at his use of technological imagery given Blake's lack of personal experience in foundry-work. Here's an excerpt of a review from the Metalurgical Fabricationist's Quarterly Journal, Winter 1794: Well might Mr Blake ask in 'The Tyger' "What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain?" For indeed, in what furnace was thy brain, Mr Blake, when writing such hackneyed verse displaying a lack of understanding of modern industrial and scientifick process? Certainly, Mr Blake has a profound and personal understanding of the Lamb, as evidenced in his earlier work, Songs of Innocence. Unfortunately, however, his ambition exceeds his grasp when attempting to illustrate issues with which we tecknologists already have specifick understanding. I suggest Mr Blake take a tour of the Hammersmith Brassworks and gain a mastery of the subjects with which he is dealing before attempting any future rimes. |
